Whatever happens, if there's a politician involved it will be a disaster.

I reckon we can agree on that heh. Everything they touch these days turns to dust.

Well, since pigs didn't fly, and nor did NBN call me back since they promised to on May 1, I rang them back but this time I selected the Complaints menu option.
The guy who took my call today was fully briefed on the process as it applies to multiple premises sites and could answer all of my questions. And he could see from my 'case log' the amount of time I had to wait on hold the first time around and apologised for that.
I can now advise the owners on the process going forward as described by NBN. The NBN guy did warn that the time between installation of their termination unit and the installation quality check could be up to 20 days, and occupants will have to wait until the QC step is done before they can apply to be cutover by their ISPs.
I will soon be the hands of the NBN's installation partner for our area, so whether or not the rest of the process is smooth sailing will depend on whoever that partner is.
Next step: site inspection by that partner.

Hmmm, looks like they have been investing in the Complaints department. Another empire on the rise!
I wonder how many of the recent purchase of $470,000 worth of coffee machines went to them?

What is it with office workers and coffee? I could never figure that out.
I used to work in an office and all my co-workers would indulge in the stuff, but I never touch it, don't even like it.
(I know this is kinda off-topic, but there's nothing to add to my NBN story).

Hopefully it will stay that way. I read many stories of areas where the NBN performance is so bad that the users want their ADSL back.
Of course, NBNCo blames the ISPs for not buying sufficient bandwidth, but NBNCo -- a publicly funded organisation -- will not reveal its network performance data to the public. It may take a parliamentary inquiry to get that data published for all to see.

I hope not... I'm still waiting for someone to turn up and install the connection box.... still on ADSL at this time.

Good grief. I thought they had finished that.
I gather that people have 18 months after NBN has finished the installation (aka NBN-ready) to cut over existing services to NBN plans before Telstra pulls the plug at their end of the copper.

My experience with installation of fibre to the home went pretty much as advertised by NBN except for two things.
The first was they were supposed to let me know when the external box was to be attached to the house so I could be at home. But they came when I was out and installed the box exactly opposite to where the solar inverter was located inside the house. Notified them of this and they reinstalled it at another location. An inspector came along and said that won't do, and it was re-installed at a third location.
After the installation of the modem and wireless router (Optus - all good, ran the fibre to the cabinet I made located in the back of the garage which is close to the centre of the house) had to wait for an electrician to connect up my old copper wire phone and extension to the router - Optus bloke would not do this. Once the system was up and running, the only problem was frequent phone drop-outs, requiring rebooting of the modem then the router. I got desperate and put an in-line filter in the phone line which reduced the frequency of drop outs. Eventually the dropouts ceased (except if the the power was turned off), so maybe once everyone in the area was hooked up and installation activity ceased, there was no cause for drop-outs.
Phone dropouts are a nuisance as there is no way to know the phone is not working unless you attempt to make a call. The only other indication is the phone light on the router which is not visible to casual notice when the cabinet door is closed. Maybe a good reason to get wireless phone depending on your circumstances as it may have a loss of connection light.
Speed is about 20Mb download and 4Mb upload, faster than ADSL but not greatly so. But that is through the Optus wireless router - haven't tried wired connection yet as the speed is fast enough for my needs, as my daughters don't complain about Netflix download speeds. Other wireless routers maybe better also.

I have no idea when the NBN is going to be installed in my area and I don't want it either. I was in my home for more than 3 years before my isp told me I had VDSL2 already installed . I now get a download speed of 25MBS and 1000 GIG a month for $80. Cant argue with that.

STC830: Out of interest, which NBN speed plan did you buy from your ISP?

Thanks. I think 25 is probably what most people go for initially when porting from ADSL.
