Hi Guys,
It looks like I'm buying this today for $100 non-working, but original.

I thought it wise to post first. If there is a reason to talk me out of it,
like hard to find valves, known problems, etc.

Help me out!!

Forum button to save after edit appears broken.

I can see it appears the speaker is stuffed.
You can see all the way through it in the top right hand corner.
The seller says the radio stopped working long ago.

I'm committed!
I would like to request a schematic if anyone has it.

This time I will try a good & proper purist restoration.
except the rules are, I'm allowed to use modern counterpart components.

Cheers, Brek.

Dunno what's causing that but I will fix it up at the weekend.

It's cool.. just means more litter posts I suppose.

When I laid eyes on it there was no question.
He took a bad photo, I thought it was a square box.

Should have mentioned when requesting schematic, chasis type is 602.

I do have the valve set on the label: 42, 80, 85, 6D6, 6A7, 6D6.

I can't help feel the seller would have gotten more money for a better photo:

Circuit sent.

It comes from a disc Kevin Chant made years ago in his Direct Components days, though it is not currently on his web site.

Thanks again Monochrome625, it does look right Smile
I made a good dial label out of your scans too.

They put the power choke on the speaker, and the audio output transformer
inside the chassis, I'm pretty sure they did,
it's hard to look under the radio.

I made a jig for my first one so I could work on it while the chassis is upside down,
but this one doesn't have the lips out the sides to hold it.

Charming old set and certainly a prize, looks complete which is the main thing..

A cabinet maker could do a nice restoration of the cabinet and it would be a handsome piece.

Evatco would be a good source of components for the chassis.

Good luck with the work in hand.

Additional comments as the edit button is not working.

The valve lineup is nothing out of the ordinary and Mal at Evatco will surely have spare valves floating about.

Again, a good buy for $100, think you will be busy over Christmas.

Yeah I think it will keep me busy and tormented Grin

Trying to figure out how to replace the speaker,
which I suspect was the culprit at the time judging by the
areas chosen by some insects to make their little nests!
Looks as though they were too lazy to get to the chassis too much.

It turns out it has an ordinary choke in the chassis,
and the audio output transformer is on the speaker.
Now have this to sort out!
Any suggestions about replacing with a modern magnetic speaker?

Here's what I have:

It could be that if this is sorted, it might just be the caps.
I have not tested the power transformer and choke,
but both being in the chassis, they look a hell of a lot neater than this.

Suggest with such an aged set it would be best not to run it until at least the filter capacitors are replaced along with the power lead and wiring inspected.

82 years is a long time and by now all of those would have to be replaced.

Indeed it would be best to replace all of the capacitors just to be on the safe side, pretty well a given they will be shot.

Think the resistors would be well out of spec by now.

Bad luck with the filter choke being o/c, but hopefully it should not be to hard to get a substitute.

If the secondary of the audio transformer is o/c a replacement will be needed, perhaps someone on the forum can help out.

As for the speaker, so long as a substitute is the right impedance to match the o/p transformer it should be ok.

The choke I haven't tested, just that it visually looks fine,
as does the power transformer.
Insects didn't get into the chassis much.

The field coil in this case is not the choke, but is marked 2000 Ohms on the label.

The schematic comes to an abrupt end at the speaker connector,
and unfortunately, it's after that where I know there are two open coils.

So I don't really know the specs for the audio transformer.
It surely wouldn't meant to be 0.7 Ohms as the multimeter says now I think.

Caps are a given, and also any resistor I can reasonably replace.

This is the mess to deal with:

which is what my schematic drawing is.

I'm not sure why but the issue with the formatting of the edit page seems to have fixed itself. It should be working for everyone now.
