You want your radio astronomy dish out in the middle of nowhere, less RFI to deal with. Same thing with optical telescopes, less light pollution.

Period movies: "Forbidden Planet" is a good sci-fi movie from the mid 50's, and played on TV in the 60's in the USA. And probably in Australia too.

Thanks Brad.

The Parkes dish was a star in "The Dish" as Ian describes in a previous post. It would be a gentle introduction to cricket for the uninitiated Wa2ise, as the crew of the dish including Sam Niell play a game on the actual dish.

Parkes also hosts an annual Elvis Presley Festival - fans in costume are welcome. A special train leaves from Sydney Central Station for the dedicated aficionados.
