Then of course there is "The Dish" with period-correct TVs and the footage shot from their screens, not faked. Full marks to the producers for that.

I agree Ian Whoever the production designer was for "The Dish" did their homework. Although I was only born the year before, this film really seems to have the look and feel of Australia in 1969.

I did see a "making of" doco for The Dish and, yes, they went to a lot of trouble to get the period detail right. The use of Forbes instead of Parkes was brilliant! But for me, the EJ Holden station wagon complete with original grey motor (tappet noise) nails it. Strangely, no mention of who did the TVs in the credits......

Did you do the TV's Ian?.... I am going to have to watch The Dish again now. It's been a few years since I have seen it. I remember originally seeing it at the cinema in Parramatta when I was on a work trip. I to love hearing the sound of the old Holden grey and red motors. Very distinctive sound.

About the easiest engines in the world to service and repair too. Yes Brad I could actually tinker with my HQ Premier motor. I don't even bother with new cars.

Yes in the US they have to go to some trouble because they run 30fps. No problem with PAL or CCIR like we have. They sync the camera to the TV image. I've been on a set where they were shooting a commercial and I saw how it's done.

Smile In another Australian film, Les Patterson Saves the World, a 1950's Holden 'stretched limo' can be seen: It only appears incidentally for a few seconds -- highly amusing.
