GTC The case appears on page three. I am a little perplexed by this one but its a learning experience apparently I was counting the pins wrong and was testing the wrong ones lol oh well now I know.

Well I got the case back last night and had a look into the inside top and low and behold there is a loop antenna well hidden there . I think it may be on the outside but well hidden by the leatherette covering the outside of the case. what I will do is attach some lugs to it so it can be easily serviceable in the future. who ever had it before had donned his stripped apron and did a bit of butchery to it but its all fixable.

One question? what pins are the speaker wires connected to on the output valve?

Assuming the speaker transformer is on the speaker and we are talking about the primary of the transformer, pins 3 (anode) and 4 (G2) of the 1Q5.

Pin 4 should also be connected to B+, btw.

I have double checked all that and they are correct. The next step is to disect the on/off volume switch and give it a clean. I do get the ABC clearly but no volume at all. The volume pott has no effect at all on it. Three things I am going to check are the switch, Resistors and valves ( Heater filaments are ok ) .

ABC is coming in courtesy of the crystal set syndrome - picked up by the 1H5. You are close to the transmitter.....

So the front end - 1R5, 1N5 - is not working or is somehow disconnected it would seem.

I have been advised that the problem may be in the volume control . so if I have the energy tonight when I get home I may pull it apart and give it a clean.

Quick way to tell before you pull it apart:

Set the volume half-way.

With the shaft facing you and the 3 pins facing up, short the far left pin to the centre. If the pot is open circuit that will bypass it and give you full volume.

There is an "Imperial Vintage Radio" on Ebay at present, which from the pictures, appear to have a very similar chassis.
Maybe worth investigating.

It certainly looks similar which leads me to the first question. Who Made these , I don't think Motor spares Melbourne made them . They just branded them.

Well I have sent this one to the doctor for a specialist look. There is one thing that I really need to do is read your comments with much deeper insight, maybe I'm just plain tired but I have been missing some very important clues but in reality that's why this site is so important because the information is there for us to read and read and read.

Well Marcc is going to be chuckling to himself and saying I told you so lol. This little radio is working very well now. We found 4 resistors that were duds and it is now performing very well. We had it running strongly at 65 volts high tension when it should be 90 volts . So all I have to do now is tidy it up and put it back together. Oh and there was a broken wire on the switch as well.
