Hi Ian.

I'm sorry about the length of time it took me to answer your question.

The thyristors were all sourced years ago from sets with dead picture tubes. Mostly from Blaupunkts. They were very popular in the area I worked. Some came from HMV's, not so popular, and does any one remember the M8 chassis Nationals, or the Sharp C1831X ? That set was a Frankenstein's monster.

I have used up most of the Horizontal thyristors, but have a number of Retrace thyristors left, as can be seen in the photo I'm sending. The horizontal thyristors failed more often than the retrace thyristor.

Live long and prosper.

Wayne.

I just got a beautiful HMV Ambassador recently.

Has been checked and repaired and is working beautifully

Photo sent to Brad for uploading

Just letting you know I have not received the photos yet. Are you sending to the correct address?

Just click on my username. It can be accessed there. I don't want to publish it on the forums as it will get spammed.

My C221 Ambassador (Pictured above) has developed some vertical issues. Brightness flickers in and out.
In dark scenes it compresses even more.

Any ideas ?

I really love watching this set, it has a beautiful colour picture

I'm in Albury NSW

That's a C212. Identifiable by the concentric fine tuning knob.

It looks like it came out of a time machine. A very nice example.

Oxidisation on the PCB pins can cause all manner of weird faults.

A good spray of Deoxit on the pins is a good place to start.

I use DeoxIT for pots, but use CRC CO Contact Cleaner for pins, edge connectors, etc as it leaves no residue.

I looked at the video Stephen.

It looks like a bad connection on one of the wire-wrap pins where the power supply connects to the deflection board. Might also be on one of the power pins.

Those Utilux pins are tin plated and they oxidise. Usually by the time you get a fault like that the contacts on the PCB have heated and lost their tension. You can often tell which pin because the plastic insulation strip becomes discoloured around the hot pin.

It's probably past the usual contact cleaner approach, some physical intervention to clean the pins with a mild abrasive (like Silvo) is needed.

The C212 has the transistor deflection circuit (no SCRs), is that correct Wayne?

C221 Rangemaster has the transistor deflection and is far more reliable.
