Hi to everyone, I've made my introductions in the members introductions area but I'd just like to make a post in the TV forums to introduce myself.

I have an interest in old electronics and have decided to devote my attention to television as I feel that it is a neglected area that needs some attention. I'm fortunate to have the space to indulge my interest as the average TV takes up more than its fair share of space.

I've been spending a fair bit of time and effort to try and compile a list of Australian brands and models and I hope to eventually have pictures of the various models.

I am looking to buy a vintage TV. The reason? Well my husband was actually a TV repair man many years ago; late 50's and during the 60's. He has since gone on to become much much more than that, owning his own business of 30yrs in the broadcast/production field. Anyway, I would love to buy 1 or 2 old TV's, both for him and for me to.
Would you have any for sale or if not would you know where I could get one.

Hi Wendy, I don't have very many early sets from the late 50's to early 60's era and the few I have I'd like to hang onto for the moment.

Sets from this era are becoming harder to find but do seem to turn up on a fairly regular basis so don't give up hope on finding one.

The best source of sets that I'm currently aware of is on Ebay in the vintage electronics section. None are listed for sale at the moment as things are fairly quiet during the Christmas period. I do see several sets for sale each year and I will send you a message if you want if I see one there. Do you have any particular age or brand of set in mind?

I'm guessing your husband is still interested in repairing old TV's as nearly every TV of this vintage is no longer operational and require repairs/restoration before they are able to be used again.

I have a few in various states of abandon. All but one were shoved in the sheds by relies & abandoned.

There is I believe a 3in one that was wrapped in plastic and put in the shed with the intent of it going too WA. Like some other of thier stuff from 1972 it never happened.

Now that I have taken over the Farm I am interested in reclaiming the space.

Reclaim space = moving them out.

One I have never unwrapped, not sure of brands at this point 2Km drive to find out.

The one that is sitting in a different shed than the others is an AWA.

It was sorta working but has not been run for so long, firing it up may cause a few upsets.

Hi. I've been using a 1968 Pye Pedigree 501PA as my main television for five years, and I'm hoping to keep using it for a while after this area goes to digital next year. Does anyone have a circuit for the tuner of this model?

Sue - I have the circuit for the tuner but I'm not sure how it is going to help you. This question really needs to be in a new topic so I'll give you a brief answer here.

What you will need is an RF modulator. This converts the composite video from digital set top boxes to a RF signal that your Pye can accept on its antenna terminals.

An old VCR will do this job for you as well. Use the video in terminals on the VCR and connect to the digital tuner. The RF out can then be fed to your TV. Make sure the modulator (in the VCR) is for VHF and not UHF as is the case with most newer VCR's.

If you want a more detailed (and simpler) answer, post a question in the main TV forum and I'll talk you through the process.

Hi Andrew. I've got the VHF modulator. It's a Kingray MD100VS. I'm using it on Channel 5A, and the results are pretty good. The reason I asked about the tuner is there seems to be a fault inside which results in most of the channels being right on the edge of the fine tuning range. The selector fine tuning is inductive, so I assume that one of the little adjusters on top of the tuner case is a capacitor that alters the oscillator frequency. I don't know which one. I guess that's what I'd need to bring the tuning back to normal?

You are correct in your assumptions in that you're tuner needs adjusting. Do not adjust any of the tuners settings until you are certain it is needed and you know what you are adjusting.

You sound like you have a reasonable level of knowledge about the subject so I have posted a guide on the adjustments of Pye tuners in the main TV forum.

Any further questions about you tuner can be discussed there. Good luck with the Pye, nice to see it being used regularly.
