Does anybody have information or schematics for Rexonola Radios & Rex Radios which were manufactured between approximately 1931 & 1933?

They were manufactured by MacDonald Jackson as an attempt to move forward from their manufacture of Rexonola gramophones and break into the rapidly growing radio market.

I would like any information to further my research on these radios. I do have some newspaper adverts and a photo of a Rex Radio-Gram (sourced from the internet) which I'll get attached to this post if possible.
I'd really like some photos (colour if possible) of any of these sets in the flesh. I'd also like to obtain some of these sets if at all possible.

From what I have researched so far, they manufactured the following models, (listed with approximate year of manufacture using advert's as a reference):
1931 - Rex Radio Console
1931 - Rex Radio Console Radio-Phono combination
1931 - Rex Radio Mantel set
1932 - Bellbird 5 valve TRF?
1932 - Dalton 7 valve Superheterodyne

MacDonald Jackson also manufactured radio cabinets for generic use under the name "JAYANDEM", I'll see if I can attach some pictures of these also.

Barry.

I have seen that form of two pin plug in an EMMCO and they would have made it. EMMCO circuits are like hens teeth & I had to reverse engineer the one in the picture that I am sending Brad.

EMMCO Radio

EMMCO made there own radio's, Radio's for others & bits for radios. Amalgamated with another & became EMAIL & made even more things.

Could have been Efco as they made radio parts plus locks and Email later owned Efco, Whitco and Lockwood before all that got absorbed by Assa Abloy in the last few years.

Brad: Did you get the EMMCO photo? The cans on it all look the same as this one's.

I will also take bets on the dial mechanism, transformer & stamp font.

The one in my photo is a Screen Grid Radio (Autodyne)

Thanks Marc & Brad,

The one in the pictures I posted was originally on eBay, unfortunately I didn't win it, but did at least get the photos for my archives. The cabinet was made by Jackson & MacDonald at their Rexonola works in Leichhardt and branded "JayandeM", I suppose the cabinet came with the Thorens spring driven motor as a generic and the radio chassis was added after for sale through an independent radio distributor as is unbranded.

I'll see if I can attach pictures of of two escutcheons that I have from an actual Rexonola Radios (sadly, I don't have the radios) and a close up of the one from this unit for comparison. Do you think EFCO made these?
I agree with you Marc that the EMMCO chassis of yours is similar or the same as the one used in this unit, the escutcheon is identical to the Rexonola escutcheons that I have, so maybe Jackson & MacDonald used this chassis in their units too???

Cheers,

Barry.

EMMCO actually made Radio parts as well as built radio's. Slade's sold chassis for you to put in your own brand of radio. So from what I have seen of EMMCO adds (have stored) it is quite likely to be what they did as well.

Note the chasses have their dimensions listed....clue!
