I purchased this set today for $35.00 hoping it'd be one of the youngest sets. Not so. I'd long forgotten that there were sets in the 47 thousands and there's probably sets nudging the 50 thousands. Or, did Gough's nudging of the tariff wall beat Kriesler to it?

Valves: 6V4, 6AN7, 6N8, 6GV8.

      33319 puts yours between:

24787 - 4 Aug 1970, silicon diode rectifier

and

34968 - 24 Mar 1972

--- on our list, so it's interesting that it has a 6V4 rectifier. We have a set dating at 1969 with a silicon diode rectifier, and others with a silicon diode dating from 1970.

Yours appears to have the original serial number tag riveted to the chassis.

Is there a date stamp on the transformer?

I didn't notice any date stamps anywhere when I had the back off. I will have another look tonight after tea. It would be odd if they were making two models simultaneously. I got the valves off the circuit diagram.

Okay, the fact-finding mission is complete. Scrap the 6V4 - whilst this is showing on the circuit diagram there is a half-wave rectifier in its place in the form of a silicon diode. This is alongside a 47μF filter - it'd have to be that big to filter a half-wave rectifier.

No date stamps anywhere though. Perhaps, going by the serial numbers (and if most of the radios in the above timeframe were purchased in the lead-up to Christmas), this may be a 1971 model? It'd be good if it was because that'd make this radio my vintage.

That's odd, given its neighbours on the list. What about the caps?

Going by existing information, this set of Brad's should have a 3-wire power cord wedged into a groove in the bottom of the case.

Due to the known bad design, the grey cover of the cord may be damaged or cut where it comes out.

As I noted on page 7, the schematic was never updated when they got rid of the 6V4.

I purchased this with the cord cut off. Yes it is a 3 core PVC job. I tucked the stub back inside when screwing the rear cover back on.
