 Proper mains earthing of vintage radios

There are rules related to "Double Insulation" which, if met, mean you don't need an earth. Briefly, the idea is you need two discrete layers of adequate insulation between mains and anything that you can touch, such that if one fails for any reason the other is still effective.

Are we talking about vintage live chassis radios? The ones I've seen could never be approved now. The concept of a "chassis" in many devices these days is somewhat strained anyway.

An approved isolation transformer normally is sufficient to make the device safe, although there are rules associated with the standard test finger being able to contact anything above a certain voltage.

I'm not the expert here though, this is just my recollection from when I last looked at the rules.
