Murray, that's good news. You will be able to make/refurbish a full set of parts from the photos. Hopefully you have all the cast mouldings needed and can make or substitute other pieces and then mock up a working circuit in a temporary frame. Even if you have to use later balloon valves for the mean time where you don't have original types. Then you can finalise the cabinet design and assemble the final product.
Good for you, let us all know how you progress.
Fred.

Hi everyone. I’m still unable to find some mahogany for this job, but I was speaking to a luthier this week about a guitar I’m building / repairing, and he mentioned that he used qld maple as a substitute for mahogany. Does anyone have a bit of timber knowledge, I wonder if it would be visually close? I wouldn’t really know what mahogany looks like up close!

Thanks Pete. Don’t know about the figure, the South African example seems pretty bland, and the wider sections ( up to about 350mm wide) seem laminated from strips about 60mm wide. It’s possible I’m overthinking this, but I just want to give it my best shot. I might head to the local boutique timber joint in town, and have a look at some maple. They have odd and sods of all types of cabinet timber on sale racks. It’s quite funny to see all the tourists walking the MALENY Main Street on a sunny Saturday, often with a chunk of some sort of cabinet timber under their arm. I just wonder what they’re planning to do with it 😂
