Well I bought this one on ebay today for quite a reasonable price I know its 240 volt and has one of those peephole tuners. It seems to be in reasonable order and looking forward to explaining to my wife why we need it lol. Any advice please (not on the wife lol)

I see what looks like an 80 so I suspect that could be 1935. The only EMMCO I have worked on had been hacked and as EMMC0 circuits are like hens teeth I reverse engineered it as it stood & then I & others studied the circuit to ping where the mistakes were.

The one I had was a screen grid type (autodyne) and the odd thing with it was the IFT's were bottom trimmer type.

Naturally all wax paper caps will have to go and if it has electrolytic caps (probably wets) those will have to go as well (or be isolated).

Marc

Yes well I noticed that there is no ARTS-P sticker. It will present a challenge but I'm upto it. I believe there may be a small tear in the speaker ( hopefully not ) but I believe I can repair it from some of the techniques I have read about by some of you guys.

In 1934 and most of 1935 the ARTS&P information was on a plaque rather than a sticker/transfer. It's a 1934 job, according to the ARTS&P plaque. See the last photo in the listing. It looks like the owner has thrown in a couple of spare valves.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

Yes I think I have a very good deal with it. A work colleague is heading up to Sydney soon and has offered to bring it back for me . I cant wait to get this baby. those valves are spares so yes the deal is good.

The white label suggests that they (like some others) failed to count the rectifier, that will cause confusion.

There is an add here for it http://www.thebakeliteradio.com/page24/files/emmco1.jpg

Radio Museum has a Jewel(?) but not as a console. Yours may be a Troubadour?

It is not the same layout as the one that I worked on. My circuit for it (6 valves actual) is on Kevin Chants site. We thought that one was an AC5, but I doubt it.

In earlier times you could pick & choose the cabinet that you wanted your EMMCO chassis in.

Hey my little EMMCO has arrived in fairly good condition. it seems that I will have to replace the volume pot which is ok as I have a spare. The speaker will need to be reconed. One of the things I want to know is this, is there a equivelent 3 core power socket like the one on the back of this available that may fit in the chassis with out too much drama. I want to be able to change to 3 core with little noticeable difference. This is a beautiful Little console that deserves to be redone.

I doubt it. Back then radios and other low current appliances were not mains-earthed. In fact they were often powered from a light socket via bayonet plug. Power points as we know them were scarce.

Have we confirmed that model? If not, let's have that valve line-up.

(BTW: Those photos will be deleted from that link in due course when eBay purges its image database.)

I will take some good photos on Wednesday. I havent really played with it yet. I just thought there would be a modern equivilent that I may be able to replace either end of the plug unit as I do want to run 3 core cable into it. I might go and hit up some of the electrical supply shops this week.

These days it's the IEC socket: http://www.jaycar.com.au/Power-Products-Electrical/Distribution...

Yeah I'm thinking that way I would prefer to use a round one if available.

The only round panel-mount mains socket that I'm aware of is this female outlet: http://www.jaycar.com.au/Power-Products-Electrical/Distribution...

Totally unsuitable for an inlet!

Suggest making a square plate of aluminium or steel to cover the hole (from the inside) and accommodate the new socket.

The only safe/legal alternative to a socket is a cable gland.
