The first radio is a Kingsley. The 'Ferrotune' label means that the radio has a variable inductor for tuning instead of a variable condenser.

Ah Kingsley well I did not know that. I'm not sure what year it is yet and I did notice the tuning was very different. I can see that its mostly unmolested inside so I'm confident I can get this upto scratch. The cabinet is in very tidy order all I needed to do was polish some cooking oil into it and presto it really came up well but I intend to give it a really good cleanup. Hey as I have to dismantle it I might as well.

Late 1940s going by the tuning dial and the type of valves. Most radios with pushbutton tuning employed inductors for tuning instead of condensers, including car radios. Perhaps they can tolerate rough handling better.

Duh silly me if I had looked at the speaker a little closer it says 1947. I'm looking forward to tackling this baby. I just got it this morning and had little time to tinker. But I have learnt something about it today.

Both fine-looking radios, should brush up well.
I have an example of the 2nd radio, the Radiola. The 6AR7GT valve (with its lead shield) is clearly visible in the behind shot. A fine example of an Australian-developed valve.
I have a couple of radios with induction tuning. The only one I remember offhand is an Astor.

The Radiola is model 429MA from 1950.
Those white circles each side of the dial contained AWA logos.

Well Guys I have the next couple of nights off I am going to try and give the awa a going over. With any luck it may only need a re cap and a new cord. Which I have at hand. Wish me luck. One of the things I noticed while reading the service manual , it says that the case is plastic. It looks like bakelite to me but I could be wrong. Any ideas please.

A couple of quick tests:
(1) Bakelite when warmed (by rubbing or hot water) gives off an unmistakable whiff of formaldehyde, plastic doesn't.
(2) Plastic will melt when touched with a flame-heated needle or soldering iron tip, bakelite won't. Do this test in an inconspicuous part of the case.
