I will look after the A-101, as long as I don't pay shipping :P too broke to get shipping paid.

Nathan, you can't go through life expecting people to give you everything for free. As suggested before, try getting a job. If you can't find a job at Coles or Woolies, try being creative. Maybe mowing people's lawns or washing their cars will bring you in a little extra cash. Just make sure your mum knows where you're going, in case anything happens.

Another thing you could do, which is how I currently make money - go out scoping the hard rubbish piles and dumps in your area, for anything with a resale value (such as vintage goods, usable electronics etc.), and try selling it at "Tender Centres" or on Facebook "Buy, Sell & Trade" pages. Just make sure you bring home stuff that will actually sell, unlike that old worn-out dryer you dragged home a few months back.

Chris

By the way Brad, what codes do you use to format the text - that is, to make the text bold, italic, underlined etc? I used to know, but I've managed to forget!

The guy who gave me the Ampex oil had a quart bottle of Hammond oil. A friend asked for it and he said "no, it's worth $1000". Not sure about that.

He was an Ampex Pro-Audio Rep in the early 80s. Had great stories like "Ampex never cared for Audio, was making too much in Video and losing in Audio" and "The Japanese were jealous of Ampex's technological prowess in the 1970s" Like Ampex made audio & video machines with analog-constant-tension, not requiring a pinch roller, like ATR-100 series. I tried to fix one of these with tension problem and couldn't. But at least these Pro products made in Silicon Valley were easy to work on.

Ampex Hybrid Reel to Reel Tape Recorder

Unlike their consumer products (made in Elk Grove, Chicago where the Ampex oil came from) which were difficult to work on, especially a compact hybrid stereo recorder from 1966 that used solid state output only, thus multiple power supplies and so mechanically layered that I couldn't get one back together again (picture)

I'm not sure about $1,000, but a quart (~1 litre) of genuine Hammond oil is valuable. The original stuff is said to have been made from whale oil -- beloved of watchmakers -- which is now impossible to get.

Interesting about the Hammond oil, I could believe its value for watchmakers etc today. The guy had it on top of his fridge and it was a conversation piece when visiting. He also had a 1959 Sony condensor microphone that he said Pro-Audio people pay $10,000 for. He expired last year from stage IV prostate and some of his family went through all audio equipment etc with an "expert" but puting most stuff in hired large refuse dumpster set at curb. We recovered many items from there they didn't want including the mike - actual mike can be seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElwlSRxSRPY but there was no sign of the oil, almost certainly pitched!
