Just a bit of a pre warning. I am going to a shed clearance this coming Sunday 25/06 I know there is a lot of television stuff there that's of no interest to me but it's a come and take all affair for a reasonable price.
I'm not doing a sale but I will post pictures here of stuff I will want gone. I have no interest in television stuff so it will all go up here or I will take it to the next HRSA meet which is the following Saturday.
I noted quite a few hard to get radio valves that I do not have but any surplus valves I may be happy to pass on.

Guys I have some photos and believe me there are stacks of Mantel Radios which are good spare parts sets with just a few things missing.
I will have more photos tomorrow and I have sent some to Brad Already.
This is not a sale post I am just trying to help clear the shed.

Hah that collection is much like mine - I'd have samples of over half those radios already.

Still, I'd be interested in having a look - if I knew where it was.

Don't think I have that many but only the ones to be serviced & the small collection I have are in the workshop, the rest are in a container. The car shed is for cars, motor cycle, lawn tractor but not radios.

Robbert. Please email me. They are fairly close to you and are good to deal with.
I did ring you.

I rang the guy and he said there were no valves left, and that the radios on display were wrecked, so I decided not to go.

I have sent more photos. There are a few that will remain with the family but anyone close to Marulan please contact me and I can pass his number on to you. There is some nice gear. I claimed what valves are left but please let me know if you want any of them. I am taking some of the components to the next HRSA meet on Saturday.
I have sent more photos.

I decided I'd go there after all, so I came away with a pair of Kriesler radiograms (not consoles, normal wooden radios with a turntable on top), and a chassis full of metal valves (I only want the valves - the rest is bin material), and a plastic box full of capacitors. Also because of a lack of change, I scored a not-bad-looking Radiola mantel radio.

Most of the other stuff really is wrecked, with holes in the cabinets, and knobs missing. There were a bunch of large consoles, but due to the size and condition I did not seriously consider them.

Robbert
those ones with holes in them were only ever offered as parts Radios. They were not real bad at that. I bought a AWA clock radio because it had the time setting shaft in it. I paid $15. Now my little restored set is complete.

Those spares sets were pretty good. My RadioMarelli you will see in my post in tech talk was very interesting. I may not get it working but hey $15 is not too bad.

FYI the first radio in post #10 is a PYE.

I pulled apart the chassis with the metal valves and got 8 valve sockets one electro, some 175kHz IF transformers and some screws etc. Most of the resistors were way out of tolerance and were thrown out, along with all the wax capacitors. One cap was leaking, literally.

The valves are 5Y3GT, 6K7, 6B8, 6SH7, 6H6. As soon as I looked underneath I realised these were not the intended valves, someone had chucked in any old thing that was laying around. The 5Y3 had a blown filament and had to be discarded. The remainder haven't been tested, but their heaters measure ok.

Now having a look at the Radiola 565MA.. it has the usual 7-pin line-up (6BE6, 6BA6, 6AV6, 6AQ5, 6X4). The dial cord goes backwards. Although someone had replaced all the wax caps, the out-of-tolerance resistors had been left untouched.

Didn't take too long to get the Radiola going. Like every other radio in that shed, the power cord had been cut off so I had to fit a new one.

Then replaced the 2x 470k grid resistors for the 6AQ5 (both measured 560k). Lastly a physically cracked capacitor was letting high voltage on to the 6AQ5 grid, causing bad things to happen. Removal of that (I need to see if it should be there) got the radio working.

The 6AQ5 still gets much too hot due to incorrect bias so tomorrow I'll do one of my famous bodges to correct that.
