Hi all I am only putting this on here to warn you all I only have my self to blame.
As those of you you know that have read my posts in the past I have the shakes very bad you would swear I had a jackhammer in my hand instead of a soldering iron this is why I had attempted to give up repairing radios it only has ever been as a hobby I am not a collector just hobbyist. Because of my vulnerability I got sucked in. Maggi Beer the renowned chef was supposed to have gone into selling hemp oil lovely web site plenty of favourable testimonials. So I thought I would order some, used my Visa Debit card . Can only use visa or MasterCard. Received an email back thanking me for the order, with order number and contact phone number should I have any queries . I expected for what I ordered the transaction to have been about $90.00 . I only ordered the smallest quantity it was supposed to be buy one and get one free. I checked my statement and it was double that . I rang the contact phone number and the supplied number has been diverted to an eye clinic the man said he has been flooded with calls and it is a scam. I have cancelled my card and filled out the necessary paper work. There is a slim chance I may get a refund there was only about 3 hours from completing the transaction to find out it was Scam . Magi beer has no such links to this. These evil people now have my mobile phone number email address and home address. I do not know if any of these will be used against me. I am an honest person, very nieve and I was vulnerable. I could have been taken for a whole not more.
It is a case of physical condition, age and vulnerability and being just plain stupid.
I think I will just return to my lounge chair, lie back mouth open asleep, sucking in the passing blowflies .
I am past my use by date .
Kind regards Jimb

Hi Jim,

"I am past my use by date" ... rubbish .... I make sure that I read all your Posts ... and there will be many others also. Not too many people around who have the knowledge, problem solving skills, techniques, persistence etc to fix these old radios. I am still amazed at their complexity. And you overcome the shakes to do it.
Maybe you should talk with your GP ... he/she maybe able to advise as to how to get a sample of the oil to assess its potential benefits for you. Some people have had success with this approach.
Meanwhile, make a list of all the projects you would like to do next ....
Cheers, Ian

Hi Pete and Ian.
Thank you for your kind words. I have contacted the credit union and cancelled the card. They have indicated that I have a chance of recovering my money not sure when.
Ian to be honest I have been trying this stuff for about 3 weeks now and it has done absolutely nothing. I am shaking more now and enjoying it less. ( an adaptation of a cigarette add from the 70's) Supply now just about expired I thought I would give it a last ditch attempt. That is where vulnerability steps in.
Regards Jim

Sorry to hear about this Jimb. It's not like you were defrauded because you signed up for some get rich quick scheme.

You acted quickly and, as others have said, it's likely that you'll get you money back.

Whenever possible I use PayPal for transactions because it puts a barrier between me (and my card) and the seller. All they get is the email address I use for PayPal and my delivery address which is a PO Box and, if it turns out to be a scam or the stuff doesn't arrive, then PayPal will arrange the refund.

Of course scammers don't usually allow PayPal as a payment option.

I was called on my mobile by my bank one day and asked if I had just authorised a $1.35 credit card transaction, which I hadn't. They said "We didn't think so" and proceeded to cancel my card. I was happy that they trapped a scammer, but it meant that I had to wait a week or so for a new card and then notify around a dozen organisations of the new card details because of direct debit contracts, which was a hassle.

I use one particular card for online transactions and for no other type. My bank can see a well established pattern of use on that card, which I guess is why they quickly called me when they smelled a rat.

GTC has a very good point when buying online
.
If they don't take Pay pal alarm bells should be going off . All Transactions are covered on pay pal ..I know people whine about pay pal and the charges , But Its the best way to go online! When I sell stuff , Its always done with pay pal. IMO its the best we have for online buying and selling. The other thing ,I have found running online Business is people trust it and push the button to buy and that's what I need.

Pete

I am thinking of getting rid of Facebook

I have studiously avoided Fbook and other forms of 'social' media. I draw the line at interactions within forums.

The Internet has been described as an electronic sewer, and I consider Fbook, etc, the electronic toilets that feed it.

Pete yes I am a member of a couple.
Our car club also uses it for communication.
I will have to think about it, or modify how I use it.

Jimb another one you need to watch out for are emails from PayPal saying we have cancelled a transaction for x amount . Please log into your account to verify your bank and credit card details.
Never ever use the link they provide. Always check your account via your app or your browser.
I got caught this way. It took me 5 minutes to lock my cards and order new ones.

One thing that PayPal does well is that their messages always address the target by their full name - EG: Dear Joe Citizen, rather than just Dear Member or Dear Valued Customer.

If your full name isn't in the salutation in a PayPal message, it's not a genuine e-mail. A hacker/con artist would be doing well to guess everyone's name.

All these reasons and more are why I do not have cards and do not purchase online.

All these reasons and more are why I do not have cards and do not purchase online.

More and more, purchasing online is the only option. Many parts suppliers nowadays do not have a shop front. Nothing transacted online is without risk. For me it's a matter of managing that risk.
