Hi all I have asked Brad when he has time to down load a picture of this white wooden cased radio. I don't know what it is.
It looks too small to be a little general.
Thanks in advance. Jimb

I've never seen that one before. The knobs look like Airzone but the sailing ship on the dial usually means a department store badge engineered model.

Being timber, it could be a later model Little General too. The builder did a reasonable job at making it look like bakelite from a distance.

Thank you Brad for uploading the photo and Hello Ian.
As yet I do not actually have the radio it is stuck in the middle of other stuff I should have it in a week or two.
My thoughts also are that is maybe a little general because there is another one near by that I am sure is.
Regards Jim.

Has the look of a Little General to me. There were many versions of the LG chassis through the years.

Yes I am looking forward to getting it. I have one little general. When I got it. The components were little general however the circuit was something else. I pulled it apart and rebuild it to a standard Little general circuit. It is a good little radio.

That dial glass was exactly the same as the one on my original LG when I was a boy.
Same with the round cream coloured gang wheel with the red painted pointers.

That was built from a kit of parts assembled from the suppliers seen in R&H, by my Dad.
Nice job on the cabinet!
Got some styling and proportion in it. (I am jealous!).

Fred.

I received this radio late this afternoon it is absolutely tiny it came with its circuit diagram.More about it in the next few days I may offer it back to the guy who gave it to me when I fix it. I am sure his Dad made it. More about this story later. Will if Brad doesn't mind post some pictures of it with dimensions complete with the circuit.

Looking forward to some pix of chassis showing how the builder did it.
Scan the circuit would be nice as well.

How about a story on fixing it up?
I drop text, jpgs into a Word doc and then PDF the lot and make a story out of it.
Brad can then attach the PDF to the appropriate post.

You could even post it in "special projects" and break up the monotony of that fred lever bloke hogging that forum!!

Fred.

Hi again.I have asked Brad when he has some time to upload some photos of this. The photos are unfortunatley a bit blurred due to my shakes . I have included the circuit .It is very small made on a copper chassis 20 mm deep. The case is timber the front panel is Masonite. The dimensions are 200 mm wide 120 mm deep and 125mm high. It will be a little while before I can start on this because I am about to repair an 1947 STC Bantam for the guy who gave me this. I may end up giving this back to him because I am fairly sure his late Dad may have made it. His dad was a communications engineer he inherited his Dad's house stuffed full of old electronics ,radios test gear etc. He is in the process of moving from Sydney to his Dad's old house in Wollongong. I met him accidentally by chance and not only that when I think back into the dim dark past over 40 years ago I remembered his Dad was one of my TAFE teachers. How is that for a coincedance? I am trying to get him interested in restoring some radios himself rather than flogging them off and he seems quite keen .
There will be a lot of stuff up for sale later on when he moves down here . I am trying to get him to join this forum also . I have bought the Kriseler 11-99 from him because I have a transistor radio that used the same case apart from that and this little radio I will not be getting anything else so there will be a lot of stuff up for grabs. I am physically not able to do a good job of repairing this stuff anymore and initially was not going to get involved apart from that I do not have the space and don't want a pile of clutter left when I depart the planet .
Is this another version of the Little General.
Regards Jimb.

Taking photos with the camera on auto and shots taken out in full sunlight can improve focus. Smile

Gee looks like a fun little radio!
I wonder how out of spec the dog bone resistors are if at all?
Looks like a Ducon electrolytic
Also it looks like quite a big power transformer for 5 valves but might just be me.

Adding to what Brad said if you have a cheap tripod you can use that too with timer mode if your camera has it. That way the camera’s perfectly still.
