For some time I have been thinking of giving my electricity supplier Energy Australia the flick. Today I received the following from them:

"We recently found a problem with your account and as a result you have been undercharged for your electricity. Your revised bill(s) are enclosed and you'll find your new balance to pay listed as the Total Amount Due."

And my total amount due is: "$203.04CR. Payment is not required."

So, according to EA I've been undercharged but am $200 in credit. Go figure!

The enclosed 'revised' bills are exactly the same as those that I paid (on time) in the periods quoted. No recalculation at all.

I thought only Centrelink was that stupid.

That said, I was once 11c in arrears when I changed address and I was actually sent a letter of demand for it! I put the stub of the invoice in an envelope with a 10c piece and posted it back. I never heard from them again - thank Christ. The stupid thing was, the letter of demand would have cost them more than 11c to send me. They did me a further favour by including an SSAE so I didn't have to pay for the postage.

Good grief. Who are you with now?

"EnergyAustralia (former name: TRUenergy) is an electricity generation, electricity and gas retailing private company in Australia that is owned by Hong Kong-based and listed CLP Group."

Is there any onshore electricity retailer left?

I see that they are owned by Hydro Tasmania. I have both residential and commercial premises, and this usually complicates comparisons (complication of offers is a deliberate tactic by the retailers to make changing suppliers all too hard to bother with), however I'll give Momentum a call.

"Hydro Tasmania, known for most of its history as the Hydro-Electric Commission or The Hydro, is the trading name of the Hydro-Electric Corporation, a Tasmanian Government business enterprise which is the predominant electricity generator in the state of Tasmania, Australia."

So, not yet sold off to an Asian company.

G,, one thing worth mentioning is that many of the "" new type " providers only do direct deposit or automatic card deductions.
Well, I won't give them access to my bank account, This is another reason I chose momentum, I get a bill in the post that can be paid at the post office or over the phone.
Pete

I also dumped that lot for dirty tricks & incompetence.

First was Solar. With a neighbour and I they deliberately messed things about, the same way for both of us, so they got a whole summer of electricity free.

Killer: A letter similar to above "stuffed up the account". Later: Letters, one with a revision of the one they apparently stuffed up and another in that same enveloped pointing out that they stuffed up the other one in the envelope as well???

They perhaps should have gone to Spec Savers: I went elsewhere. So easy when there were two meters with different companies (That same incompetent Electrician again). Second meter was removed when the system was upgraded & incorporated into one.

That too had funny moments. They removed the Bi-directional meter to the new location & fitted a new transmitter & no antenna? The way they put the antenna on where it was, meant they would break it moving it.

Months later this bod turns up in a truck: The meter (inside its Faraday cage) is not talking to any one. Apparently if it gets lonely it can talk to another meter & it can pass on the info. So another new transmitter with two external antenna's. Obviously the meter is actually smarter than the humans.

I guess I should now standby for a second letter telling me to ignore the first one.

I was once 11c in arrears when I changed address and I was actually sent a letter of demand for it!

Reminds me: Many years ago my private health fund wrote to me demanding 4-dollars-something owing to "an incorrect calculation". I hit the roof. I rang them and told them that, given that I was the only mug that I know who was still actually purchasing private health cover, they can shove their $4 and cancel my policy while they are at it.

They said they'd prefer to cancel the $4 and thanked me for my loyalty.

It will be most interesting in a few weeks. I will be visiting a fellow pilot who has gone off grid. That's another way of killing the greed and incompetence. I will with no doubt, get a truthful run down on the true cost of the installation.

Apparently acquaintances are bringing a couple of Tesla cars. So we can actually evaluate acceleration etc. on the air strip.

Energy Australia started life as the Sydney and Shortland County Councils. How things have changed. Now foreign owned and I think based in Melbourne too.

I think based in Melbourne too.

Yep, renamed from the VIC company TruEnergy (as opposed to false energy, I suppose).
