Gas stove, Gas hot water.
The heating is electric blow heaters,3 of them.
The big user would be the dry which is always on due to kids, The appliances are all from the 1950s, fridge 1955 etc ,all TV's and Radios are valve and all kitchen appliances are from the 50s too ,So I imagine that those fridges ,toasters,TV's ,radios being that old and many are valve are not efficient compared to modern items ,but as you would agree I'm more than happy about the bill, pete

Yes, it's a good rate. Wonder what they'll charge you at Albury? Suppliers' charges vary depending on your location.

Not sure G, But I was told that providers refuse to put in land lines unless there is already one there.
Getting nervous, I've been wanting out of Sydney a long time and now it's here it's a bit scary some days , but I won't miss the traffic or the cost of Sydney that's for sure,
Pete

Just to put an old guys point of view with electricity suppliers.
Try generating your own.

When you do, work out the cost per Kwh.
Allow for cooking and hairdryers (let alone air con !)?
When you get the weekly cost of equipment, depreciation, maintenance, running costs and all that down pat, THEN, do a comparison.
I have done it and failed and thanked the lord for the single SWER line and then the council 240 volt.
No more chopping wood, burning clinkers for heat and the always hot kitchen stove.

When you do all that I'm happy to get power from anybody, but do keep a standby set in workshop 4kva so the fridge and freezer don't melt food. May need it soon if the solar and fans in the air idiots get the coal fired power stations all demolished.
A point of view from somebody who has been there and done that.

Fred.

No, I think the various platers are mostly in the western suburbs these days, driven out of business by EPA and local councils. I was told that even sand blasters are being given a hard time by the NB Council.

Most local councils are devoid of the major parties these days and are usually made up of the Greens and self-serving independents - ie: Boss Hogg types who run the town just as much from outside the chamber as in it. If there is a decision to be made by a council you can pretty much bank on it being devoid of any reason or designed to send a business owner broke.

I remember from years ago the mayor of my local council also owned all the chemist shops around here. Strangely, anyone else who wanted to open a chemist shop got rejected.

This mayor has eventually retired, and closed most of his shops. So now there's hardly any chemist shops left.

I did read somewhere a long time ago that it was unlawful for two pharmacies to operate within 1.6km of each other in NSW. Maybe this law was repealed but not sure. I used to live in Ryde and there were at least three within that range at the time at and near Top Ryde Shopping Centre.

Pharmacies are like newsagents. Their guild/union dictates where they will be situated. It's based on territories. My guess is that, like newsagencies, pharmacies will find themselves out of business in a decade or so. My guess is that pharmacists will work from behind counters within supermarkets.
