Just wondering if anyone followed this Bush TV on ebay: item number: 331017023111. I was going to bid but it looked like it may have a faulty picture tube, or at least severe ion burn? But I was suprised at the final sale price - $471. This is a rare set in Australia, but very common in the UK, which begs the question of how much would it cost to import one? Has anyone imported one and have any idea of cost? I often lament the large amount of early American and English gear so easily had over there! It seems our early sets are a cheap over here as these early Bush sets are over there. I watched a listing for not one but 3 complete early sets (including an identical Bush) sell last week on ebayUK for 56 pounds!!

Hi Robert, yes I have often looked at getting them from the states and the UK prob is they want to charge a fortune to send and if its bakelite it might turn up in many pieces lol
but most of the people I messaged refused to pack and post to Aus so I gave up Smile that was a very nice set if I had seen it I would have bought it but I didnt even see it listed.

Also noticed you do a lot of early 20s radios have you got any Kennedy sets? cheers

Hi there,
yes it was a nice set, but not sure if it was worth the money? I have quite a few 20's sets, many of them are Aussies, and several I bought in from the US before AustPost changed the size requirements. I don't have a Kennedy, but hope to find one someday.
I've collected about 20 x 50's TV's, mostly in good condition. I've restored maybe 2 as they take a lot of time, effort and $$. I used to repair colour sets for a living about 15 years ago, but getting an old valve set going is so much more fun, as you may well know! But I'd love a 40's set from England or the US. I reckon if there was enough interest we might find a few collctors to go on an expedition to the US and hunt some down - send a few back on a pallet! Now who'd be up for that?
Robert

Nathan, good luck getting a 1950's colour. Americans sure seem to love them, especially the colour roundies.

I've always wanted a colour valve television, which we regrettably have very few of here in Australia. However, America has the General Electric Porta-Colour series portables, in which most used valves. These are apparently rather common 1960s, 70s and 80s sets. If you need to add some more sets to the pallet, I might be able to add a Portacolour!

I've purchased 4 TVs from the US via eBay.

Generally, shipping costs around $600 for a reasonable sized 20-something inch CRT.

The most I paid was $700, but that was for a Predicta Holiday on a roll away stand. It was very well packed and on a pallet base. Arrived here in perfect nick.

Hi Robert,

"20 x 50's TV's" - sounds interesting, have you catalogued your collection?

If you'd prefer, can you email me (see my profile page) as I'd like to know more about your collection.

Andrew
