Hello everyone! I'm new to this site but I stumbled upon it and I'm quite happy to see so many people with such vast knowledge (because I'm a big beginner at working on CRT sets so I need all the advice I can get 😅)

Getting to the point though.. I recently picked up a mid (I assume) 50s HMV CRT set (Chassis E1) and I'd like to get it going again as my first 50s set.. The set is missing the back cover and when I first got it I was trying to find a snipped power chord because I figured it had been cut, but after cleaning it and having a good look I noticed 3 pins towards the bottom that I ASSUME would've been a mains plug (One's grounded to the chassis and the other two are positive and negative I'd imagine).

So with that said I'm wondering if anyone would be able to help me identify the plug it would've taken and perhaps some help finding pictures of the same model set because I've found somewhat similar ones online but nothing that looks quite like my set.. I'm mainly trying to find pictures to see what the back cover would've looked like and been labeled with.

I've got myself a Dim bulb tester to use afterwards as I've read that you always wanna wake these old sets up slowly to limit what goes kablooey

Also yes, I could chord swap it and I may very well do so but I wanted to try seeing if I could track down an original plug for it first because I'm that kinda picky 😂

If anyone would be able to help me find more info about the set such as service manuals or whatnot that'd also be appreciated! It's a Model E1K91.

You have a Kelvinator Model E1K91, which is a clone of the HMV E1-91

I've brought a couple of E1s back to life.

They are capable of excellent pictures.

The E1 was EMI's first TV. They lost money on every one they sold!

Does yours have doors?

The complex horizontal Synchrolock circuit was straight out of RCA's first TVs, RCA phased it out early because it was too complex and expensive.

You'd be very lucky to find one of those power cords. Best solution is probably to replace the 3 pins with an IEC socket.

My email is unhidden if you need help.

Thanks for the replies guys! I was actually thinking about going with the IEC route as I figured that'd be the most straightforward option and I've had no luck even finding the correct model plug

Mine doesn't have doors.. I believe it's called a tabletop set but I could be wrong. I sent in some pictures and hopefully they'll upload eventually.

I'll reach out Ian because I'm fairly new at working on CRT's in general and the most I've done is replace a few diode's on a 70s Rank that were shorting the green gun but I guess every maniac 18 year old starts somewhere 😂

Nice looking set.
Will look nicer once there is a picture!
