I have this POS 12" TV as a repair job - it has some historical attachment to its owner.

It's branded Oscar, made in Taiwan probably in the late 60s.
And it's a hybrid, with a 38HE7 Compactron and a few 9 pin valves.

Designed originally for 110 volts, there is a stonking great 240 to 110V transformer bracketed above the chassis to make access impossible.

I've never seen one of these before, for which I suppose I should be grateful!

Anyone got a circuit? I don't wish to go poking around the board and frying my meter - always a risk where one of those single ended hor OP and damper Compactrons are involved.

The name Oscar rings a bell. I'm sure that I have something of that brand, but I am not sure if it is a hybrid. Will look when I get home.

Ian.
I have emailed the circuit to you.

Let us all know how the set works out.

Wayne.

Thanks Wayne!

That's the one.

Very, very much appreciated.

Thanks again Wayne for the high-res scans of the user manual.

Long time since I saw a schematic in one!

Anyway, I merged pages 2 and 3, cleaned up the result and compressed it.

The Oscar is now running.

First fault was an OC .0039μF styro in the line oscillator. Usual styro behaviour, it fixed itself as soon as I measured G1 of the oscillator. It will be replaced with a DM cap.

Have to extract mains transformer from the set and extend it on clip leads to be able to get to the chassis.

Blank raster now, someone's been looking for this fault before, numerous fresh soldered joints.
Tuner IF out shorted, bad solder joint.
No bias on 2nd IF, missing 22k resistor.
3rd IF transistor OC B-E.

We now have signal, someone has beet fiddling with the tuner, it won't quite tune my CH2 modulator.
Some hum and noise in the picture to track down.
Picture cannot be centred without vignetting in the top LH corner.

Getting there!

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...
