Can anyone identify this PYE Television set which I suspect is from the late 60's
I am thinking of a purchase if the price is right but want to know a bit more about it.

Yes Stephen, I saw your pic.
It could be a T23 or a T26 in that cabinet style.

Photo uploaded. Sorry for the delay, things have been mad at work in the last week or so, including working Saturday and Sunday.

Model 25C-8 was released in 1972. Solid-state chassis with a DIN socket for cassette/tape audio. This model was still being sold new after the introduction of colour TV in 1975.

Thanks Monochrome.
Fascinating that they were still selling these after colour arrived.
I thought B/W sales would have fallen through the floor.
This one sounds like a good set but not $300 worth........which is what seller is asking.
I am not prepared to pay that, even though it works.

People want silly money for what they consider to be "Vintage TV's" these days.
I guess we have Ebay to thank for that.
Barn finds are the only good affordable source now.

Actually B&W set sales (large screen) did fall through the floor when colour sets were widely available from 1974. However, the factories probably still had stock for some time. There would have been millions of trade ins too. Interestingly, large screen console B&W sets were still manufactured in the USA up until 1983 but I can't imagine that would have been the case here.
Cheers.

Yes Stephen, tell him he's dreaming. They didn't cost that much new!
No trade-ins of B&W TVs happened. Delivery guys would charge to take them away. I used to install early colour TVs and I could have picked up any number of B&Ws for free. I did pick up a near-new solid state 24" Kriesler B&W and gave it to the girlfriend's parents!
No production of B&W TVs happened in Oz after 1975. The last makers were Healing, Thorn and Precedent - the latter using stockpiled Astor chassis. The demand for colour sets was so strong that plants were running 24 hour shifts.

Yeah not sure on this one now Ian.
I have found another mid 60's HMV I like better. 🙂

Yeah as I reported on the phone I checked the CRT in that HMV PN series.
It has to be the deadest CRT I've yet tested! Using my Simple Tester I got 0 volts.
Ramping the heater up to 12 volts I eventually got 0.007 volts!
I suspect as an afterthought it might have an O/C cathode, that was a common occurrence in Thomas 23HP4s around that time.
My parent's Pye T20 was about the same vintage, same CRT, and that's what happened to it. Sometimes you could bring them back (albeit temporarily) with a firm tap on the neck with a screwdriver handle.
Pity, rest of TV, especially the cabinet, looks good.

I am very disappointed Ian, but that's the way it goes, these are 50+ year old sets after all.
It is a particularly nice set cosmetically wise and the cabinet looks like it has been very well looked after.
I even have the transistor remote control for it.
I contacted the seller again, I think they would be receptive to an offer under $50.00.
I am considering this as I can store it with the remote chance that a suitable CRT will magically turn up 😂
It will be dependent on if I can get a reasonable freight quote to ship it from Sydney to here.
Thanks to you to for taking the time out of your day to drive 40 minutes away to test the CRT. I owe you a big favour.!

My brother in law had one of these - perhaps the same model - as it was wide with the twin speakers. The picture performance was very good, though I had one objection: it had way too much overscan - perhaps a lack of final quality control on the assembly line?
One day when he was away, I set about to 'fix' it: removing back cover I noticed the width control was a ferrite piston without the usual brass thread attachment, so adjustment was very simple!
