I guess the rest of the circuit couldn't handle whatever he did to raise the output power. Heat is the usual suspect.

Check out the VideoKarma website in the US. Vintage TV restoration is very much alive there, both B&W and Colour. They have a much greater pool of vintage sets to choose from and the colour "Roundies" ie round tube ones are greatly prized. I am a member and find reading the posts fascinating as the colour sets go back to the fifties. In Aus we were really behind the times. As for analogue RF signals for vintage sets I use an old VHS VCR which has a CH1 modulator. I feed the AV in with an older style DVD player which doesn't have HDMI but does have AV RCA outputs. This setup works very well and essentially cost nothing.

Hi Pete. The thing I like most is that in the US you can still obtain many NOS parts for very old units. If the LOPT in my PYE W101 dies, well that's it. In the US for an equivalent aged set a LOPT or "FLY" as they put it, could most likely be found. Plus they have a much larger pool of prospective resto sets to choose from. I'd love to get my hands on one of those "Predicta" sets. They are so ugly that they are "cool". Cheers. Ian T.

Irext, Hi Ian, If the Fly back in yours ever did stop working .You would get another one here , Because that W101 chassis was used in other cabinets . I have one here in a 17 inch, Someone here would have the parts for a w101. I do have a pye parts TV set ,but its 21 inch. Thats the problem with our hobby! There are 2 words we never speak of , "flybacks and crt" shhhhhhh dont even whisper it.! Hope ya well,,,pete

Hi Pete. That's comforting to know. I tend not to leave it running for very long as I'm nervous about the LOPT. I remember many years ago seeing one arc across the overwind and go up in smoke. I fitted a Radar replacement at the time. I reckon all those unused spares have gone into landfill now. No one ever thought these sets would someday be of value. Cheers.
