Hi RadioDaze,
"The RF modulator channels range from 21 to 69 and I have a feeling this is too high for the HMV TV."
Channels 1-12 are VHF, and channels 21 - 69 are UHF. You'll need to find a VHF modulator that you can use with this. Alternatively, older VCRs often had a VHF modulator built into them, which could output onto Ch. 1 & 2 or 3 & 4 (if it's foreign). The VHF ones will have a switch for the two channels, while the UHF ones will have a potentiometer for adjusting the UHF output frequency.
There are some VHF modulators on EBay, but they can be quite expensive. Jaycar used to sell them, but I've had no luck with their ones (cheaply made things). Others have had luck with them though, so it might be worth trying one if you can find one.

Jaycar up until recently were selling a RF modulator, "Xpose" LM3873 for about 20 bucks. My local Jaycar still had some 3 weeks ago. These RF modulators have a A/V input and works on channel 0 or 1. The one I have works fine apart from a bit of caption buzz. I noticed they appear to be no longer in their catalogue. You may have to do the rounds of various Jaycar stores to see if they still have some in stock.

I suspect our local Jaycar here ordered a bad batch of them. I bought two, and a friend with a VHF-only Sanyo bought one, and none of them worked. Of course, they didn't come with any paperwork or manuals either. Most of the Jaycar outlets seem to have stopped stocking them, for whatever reason... The only ones still kicking about are old stock.

Thanks for your help guys,
I learn something new every day on this forum! I'll see if I can find one of these superseded CH0-1 modulators in a Jaycar store. Otherwise, an old VCR seems to be the easiest method. I looked on eBay for a new VHF modulator but these are very expensive for the little time I'm going to be using the set. I'll keep you posted on my progress.
Cheers!
RadioDaze.

Hi everyone,
I just took delivery of a VHF RF Modulator from Wagner Electronics...
http://www.wagneronline.com.au/ProdDetails/AV_TV_SAT....
...and here is how I have it connected;
DVD player connected to RF Modulator inputs via composite and then RF Modulator connected to theTV via coaxial with 75ohm/300ohm transformer.
I've matched each of the 12 channels on the RF Modulator with those on the TV one by one, fine tuned each, but I'm still not getting a picture.
I shouldn't think that the tuner inside the TV set has been tampered with at any stage but it seems to be the only thing that could be wrong, unless one or more of the components I have bought are faulty.
Any ideas?

Hi RadioDaze.
I stocked up on some Jaycar VHF modulators and have one to spare if you want. I can send you one for $20 posted. I've tried it out on my TV and apart from a slight caption buzz, it works fine. Please note, they need a 12 volt power supply to make them work.
I have heard some people aren't having any luck with these modulators. I've had no problems myself.
Your HMV is a early 10 channel set so the modulator should work on the channel 1 setting.
Here are the results with the Jaycar modulator with my TV tuned to channel 1:-
You mentioned you were looking forward to watch some Homicide episodes. Crawfords have also now released two seasons of Division 4 on DVD.
