A legacy of Joseph Lucas (Prince of darkness) was the use of the minimal amount of metal in switches& such leading to many fails & burnouts.

Do consider, if the contacts cannot take the motor load the same way as many column switches made by Lucas. That you get the underrated switch, to activate a relay/s, which can handle the loading.

The finish is polyester. Tough and polishes up well.

Kriesler, in Cawarra Rd Caringbah, bought a controlling interest in their cabinet maker, Kriesler-Dawson.

You have a No Remote Control model! They were rare. But a lot less to go wrong, the R/C version relied on the motor for the front panel channel change and had a runt backup manual channel changer at the back, as you can see on the screen printing.

That chassis has excellent performance and geometry and can produce close to perfect picture and sound. There is even provision to remove the adjacent channel traps (when they are not needed) to improve the resolution still further. It's worth trying to find a program playout device with Y/C outputs, so you can feed your modulator with the Y signal and get the maximum resolution of which this set is capable.

The Lane Cove Philips CRTs were long lasting and make sharp pictures.

The models with the electrostatic tweeter deliver spectacular sound, especially if your ears are young enough to hear the difference!

All in all, if you like vintage B&W movies, the viewing experience doesn't get much better than this TV.

This Kriesler could be a Model RM94, chassis type 79-17 from 1965.

According to the Kriesler TV model list (Technical Advisory Service Note No. 43) the 79-15 chassis's were not used in 25" models. The first 25" Kriesler's used the 79-16 and 79-17 chassis.

The OP got the chassis number 79-15 from the chassis tag AFAIK.

The 79-16 was a 2 stage IF chassis and didn't warrant the "Super Fringe" badge.
The 79-17 was the successor to the 79-15 and possibly wasn't ready for production early on.

All makers were having trouble with the new Philips 6Y9s at that stage so the -15 would have been a safer option to run down the line since it didn't use this valve.

That set is likely to be rare, almost all Kriesler's production in the mid 60s was remote control sets.

Those chassis usage lists were not always completely accurate. They reflected what was intended rather than what actually happened on the factory floor! The early production 6Y9s caused headaches for everyone so it's understandable that the more reliable older model would have been stretched out to fill the gap.

But I guess we'll never know for sure!

Thanks for the explanation. I suspected that the 79-17 chassis is the Super Fringe successor to the 79-15. Makes perfect sense.

I can't imagine why it would reject a PNG image but stranger things have happened in this world. I convert all non-JPG images to JPG before uploading anyway, so it may pay to try that and then send again.

I use an Ikusi Maw-200 Modulator, originally used for hotels, etc. (This can do just about any analogue channel there is, anywhere!)
Or an old VCR... But one can only use VHS tapes, obviously!

Well no, you can use the VCR in "E to E" mode, where any signal at its line inputs appears at the outputs, and that includes the modulator output.

But you do need a VCR with VHF output.

If you want to play DVDs and they have Macrovision on them, you will need my modulator as described in Silicon Chip mag a few years back. They have PCBs and parts for it.

I have found the GTMedia V7TT media player to be excellent as a signal source. It allows you to display test patterns as well as replay video form a USB or your home network, Netflix, terrestial TV, whatever.

To connect the video and audio to your modulator or VCR you do need a special long tip TRRS plug and cable that is not supplied but is available on line.
