Hello,
I have inherited a radiogram from my grandparents which I would like to fix. However, I' m struggling to identify the brand of the valve radio.
I would appreciate if someone can assist me in doing so.

The Radio has 5 valves:
6BA6, 6AV6, 6AE8, 6A?? , and the last one I can not read.
It has a black transformer with national stamped on it.

Regards,
Anthony

Hi Anthony

Take photos of the entire radio and give some close ups of the dial, Chassis and any other markings you find. Email them to Brad (The Administrator of the site) and we can go from there.

Valve radios, They just don't make them like they used to

6A?? could be 6AQ5. The last one will be the rectifier, possibly 6X4. The photos will help when they come,

Meanwhile, don't be tempted to power it up.

The knobs look a bit AWA-ish but it's not their power transformer. These types of radiograms were often built from the 'parts bin' because they were done in low numbers. These are similar to those that are part of a china cabinet or whiskey bar.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

Nice looking cabinet. Unfortunately cant add much as to the identification of the radio.

Defiantly don't turn it on as the chassis mounted caps look to be leaking.

From underneath its not a hard radio to restore but if its your first you need to take lots of time and study the layout and connections.

Are you planning on restoring it yourself?

To be honest, I was planning too. But because it is a valuable item from my grandparents that passed away, I might try and find a specialised person that can do the Job properly. I do not want to take the chance and ruin it.

Thanks for your help guys, I really appreciate all your comments.

Looks like it shouldn't be too hard to restore. Replace all the electrolytic and paper caps, and check the resistors. There's not many parts in it.

Then if the transformers are ok it should work. Power cord termination needs upgrading obviously.

Looks like you live not too far from me, perhaps 15-20 minutes.

That type of radiogram often had a dark and uninteresting cabinet, but yours has a very nice cabinet indeed.

Should not be difficult to restore electronically. The gramophone may need some attention.

IIRC, they are Aegis generic.

That is a fine old radio. It should easily restore but you are right in asking a pro to do the work. I will add that you can easily organise for it to accept a CD player as well and that is with out taking away from its originality . I have done this to one of my old beauties and its very enjoyable to listen to.
