Interesting ended up moving browsers to stop site hanging & loading like a tired snail. Telstra here has never made their optimistic speed. As is noted ad nauseam the mobile has been a joke since day one as well.

I am currently cleaning out mainly three computers and a BU drive. Incredible: Its close to a public service model with all of the duplicity in it. Several Gb has already been dumped. That has caused the XP one to want reactivation which cannot now be done on line.

Now if there interest, I tend not to collect but do take reference photos of some sets, so there is a collection of photos of various radios assembled and /or their chasses.

Marc

I've rebooted the server.

My old laptop (which contains the files for just about every website I've ever built) died some time back. At the moment I am in the middle of shifting 220GB of files across to this laptop. As this machine is also due for replacement, being about eight years old now, I will also copy it to my USB hard disc, which I use as a second backup for everything.

More often than not, a mechanical hard disc will survive the hardware it was installed in. I've had once case of the hardware outliving the disc but that is very rare. I am just glad that computing is digital. If we recorded to tape in an analogue format, I wouldn't be doing this back-up!

I see I have somehow become Microsofted and the XP computer is now telling me that it is not activated? Naturally it will not log onto Microsoft at its age. Obviously doing things like that they want me to change it to Linux & next time buy Apple.

I did manage to buy a Seagate 4Tb portable drive cheap & that should help maintain chaos.

Not a fan of laptops, notepads and all in ones. The all in one has an invidia fault & I probably need to open it up to see if its a dry joint in the PSU.

I have worn a couple of disc drives out & both in the XP one are not in good shape but its twenty one.

Currently I have gone back to a desktop with a large monitor. Over the years the note pads & laptops have been slow & unreliable. It is interesting that we started with solid hard drives, went to ones that were like a record changer & now we are back to solid. I would like to think that having no moving parts its life span would only be limited by the quality of the parts.

The program I want to run on the XP computer will run on 95 & vista so that's an option.

One trick I've used multiple times to activate a few copies of XP is to ring the Microsoft activation number: 1800 642 008
just select activate via telephone on your XP machine and it will give a long number on the screen which you type through your phone to the microsoft computer at the other end of the line. After which it will read back a complementing long number to activate it.

There was a scatter of the clutter of the Bench last week when a HMV set with no ID turned up after I sorted it to running & modified a bit of it.

I found out it was a 42-71; The info being necessary to determine the IF frequency used, as it had been got at.

This had fix me written all over it when I realised how close to mint the cabinet was; confirmed after I washed it. I need the correct knobs for it to be almost perfect.

HMV Little Nipper 42-71
