After studying electronic engineering I entered the workforce and didn't really enjoy the profession very much. Overtime, I began to warm to the equipment and concepts of my new profession, but never really found the application or the products I was building to be interesting. Aside from this I enjoyed tinkering and restoring old vehicles, which is where much of my income went. It wasn't until some years ago I was given a 1960's Kriesler radio by my wife's grandmother. I didn't think much of it, but one night I grabbed it out of the cupboard and plugged it in to see if it worked. Well, to my surprise it did. I would listen to talk back radio later in the evenings. I would lay on the kitchen bench and often the cat would sleep on my back as I peered into the back of the unit. I was mesmerised by the
dull glow of the valves, the hum and the smell of it. Apart from that often what I was listening to was very interesting to me. In fact, it was on the this radio on the morning of Sept 11 that I first heard about the world trade centre attacks. Over time I became more interested in the parts inside the radio and thats about when the two worlds of my life began to collide. My interest in restoring old things back to brand new and that of electronics. So this is where I start my journey hoping to find out more about the radio's and have an opportunity to maybe buy a broken one and restore it. Here's hoping anyway. Till then, I will continue to listen to my Kriesler, which I still enjoy very much.
