As noted printer cartridges are being phased out & at the moment that seems to be printers as well, as they are rather thin on the ground.

I did pop into the local Office Works & there was nothing much there that impressed me & a large number were Epson which were more likely to depress me. As they were also having a no interest sale (I.e. Were not interested in me at all), I wandered out & went elsewhere where they were interested in me, as I had bought there before and was (to them) not likely to be there kicking tyres.

I have had Canons get to a point where a message comes up saying end of useful life & shut down another decided to strip is gears. The Chem factory and another there had a HP the same as mine & all three had serious issues with their bi-directional function.

I bought an Epson printer/scanner about 10 years ago (or there-abouts). Since then it has scanned thousands of pages without issue, but I've never tried printing. I doubt it would print anything by now.

You can right-click on the tray icon and get driver updates, although there haven't been any for a year or so.

It was originally used on a XP machine, and about 8 years later it was replaced by a Windows 7. Still scanning just fine.

If it would scan without cartridges ever being put in it it may be ok!

As per the normal the new printer has a scanner and there is a copy of "Fine Reader" OCR which I do not consider as good as the older Soviet era one. Anything that could read Pravda, had to be good.

I do photo work & there is a stand alone V800 Epson scanner to scan prints, documents, negatives, reversal film, & annoy by occasionally loosing its drivers. It has something called "Ice technology" which may explain loosing drivers & freezing?

Marc
