HI,

Have been interested in all forms of radio since a kid and have been in to amateur radio for about 25 Years (callsign VK2KEV). Have started a very modest collection of old broadcast radios. Can’t really afford bakelite stuff so have been buying plastic case radio from the late 50’s and early 60’s. My radios range from the latest Digital Dab + unit to my latest purchases a STC floor cabinet radio.

I was after this radio more as a piece of furniture for the formal lounge room (no TV in this room) but will restore to working condition as well.
The veneer is in very good condition with no missing pieces, also the speaker grill cloth is complete and not torn or stained.

I haven’t been able to identify the model yet so any help there would be appreciated.

Regards

Kev

G'day Kev,

STC used the station dial on your radio in a range of table top and console models during the 1938-39 era.

Could you give us some further details of any marks on the chassis, valve line up, number of shortwave bands etc?

When we identify your model, I'll email you a schematic to help you in your resto.

Cheers, Graham...

Hi Graham,

Thanks for the reply. there is a sticker on the back which has CODE-509 on it and the valvue layout. I'm having trouble reading the tubes info so this may not be correct.

Tubes listed:

574G (not sure if this one correct)
6AG6G
607G (not sure if this one correct)
6U7G
6K8G

It is one band only.

Regards

Kev

G'day Kev,

Your model is a 509T of 1939.

Valve lineup is;

6K8G Converter
6U7G IF amp
6Q7G Det, AVC, 1ST Audio
6AG6G Audio output
5Z4G Rectifier

If you give me an email address, I'll send you a copy of the schematic

Cheers, Graham...

G'day Kev,

If you cannot get a clear copy of the 509T circuit, you could try the earlier 508R schematic if it is clearer.

The only difference is that the IF tube is a 6D6 and the tone control is switched rather than variable.

Cheers, Graham...
