I have poor photocopies of two ads, one from Radio Electrical Weekly, Dec 22 1947 selling the beehive and model 11-7 as a pair promoting the two radio home. Also an add promoting the beehive and model 115 (AC)/312 (vibrator), a timber table radio with twin dials, again promoting the two radio home. Unfortunately the bottom is cut off this one so that the publication name doesn't appear. These I believe were copied at the Mitchell Library in Sydney.
I can scan and email these if you like - at least you would know what to look for.

Period ads for radios turn up on eBay from time to time. They are usually pages cut from colour magazines such as Womens Weekly. I bought one such ad for the Kriesler Duplex.

I note some ads for it on Trove, around September 1946, where it is described as Kriesler's Sealed Radio with a futuristic cabinet design.

Will do, but they will have to wait until next week as I have had two keys on my Dell laptop fail and I am sorting that out.
Curious that this was just after a Dell update, and that the keys involved, 4 and 5, are the only keys that carry a third character, being the Chinese currency symbol and the euro symbol respectively.
Have decided to buy a new keyboard as the keyboard is a known weakness of Dell laptops, and two replacement keys for the old one, so that if I can get it working will have a spare keyboard.

A fellow I know has a Dell and also had keyboard character problems after an update, but in relation to the £ symbol. I reconfigured his keyboard driver and fixed that.

I don't have the pound symbol, but if it was on the 4 or 5 keys, it may be the same problem. Should I see if I can wind back the driver update if there was one?

Go into DOS and type run charmap. You can obtain any computer recognisable character from there.

As I recall, his problem related to SHIFT-3 and SHIFT-4 but only manifested itself in certain applications such as Eagle.
At some point his Dell thought he had a UK keyboard whereas he uses a US 101 keyboard. Maybe that's your problem?
The way to change keyboard language setting varies depending on what version of Windows you are using, but Windows help should guide you.

The problem is that the keys do not work at all, though initially after several tries I could get a response out of them, then they failed completely. This led me to believe it was failed key mechanisms, but quite a coincidence that both 4/dollar & 5/percent fail at the same time (these from the number pad which allows normal usage since dollar and percent not used much).
So maybe the Dell update may have changed the responsiveness of the keys...?
Any way will wait for the new keyboard to turn up - if that doesn't work will look into the driver.

That sounds like a hardware problem. Most keyboards these days are simple affairs and easily cleaned. I've accidentally poured tea into mine on more than one occasion. I just opened it, washed it out and dried it and she's back to normal operation.
The problem I alluded to was a case of the wrong (i.e. unexpected) characters being generated by the wrong keys. It was caused by inappropriate key mapping within the driver software.

It is also amazing what finds its way under keys and into the top of the key board. My main problem being rural is insects & quality.
Since July 2013 The vowel numbers wore off the computers cordless original keyboard, in months & was replaced under warranty by one that did the same thing.
The one that replaced that was dud lasted a few weeks before it & the mouse lost communication. That was replaced under warranty. The "A" of that replacement has now also lost its numbers paint, but otherwise works. The mouse that came with it has also lost most of its paint as well and is now apparently a Logit.
It does pay to turn the keyboard upside down & sideways occasionally and run a hand over the keys a few times to dislodge any debris. Doing this with the computer running is not a good idea. It took us, at the shop, 2hrs to unscramble one due to that.

Thanks for these ideas.
The keyboard has the typical flat keys of laptops, and has had a soft plastic cover to keep contamination out of the keys for most of its life. I popped the cover off the dud keys and found nothing untoward. So it looks like mechanism failure.
Looking at some forums, software failures are not unknown, being keys giving the wrong characters, but I agree that this case is a hardware failure.
