Hi all,

Does anyone have a good AL4 valve available. It's a side contact (P base valve) with a 4 volt filament. I'm trying to finish a marathon restoration and came to ''switch on'' today only to find the filament OC! Happy to buy or swap.

Robert

In desperation its the same as EL3N ("P") of which there is also EL3NG (Octal) but you need to find 2V, as these are 6.3V heaters, not 4V.

Click on this very long link!

As usual, Google is your friend. Price is not bad, I often get hard-to-find valves this way.

You'll probably not find many of these in Oz, they were not used by local makers UIM.

Thanks guys,

I did first look at ebay, and even found some for US$12, but the postage is $20+. Still if it's the only option I might have to get one this way. I'll also try the HRSA valve bank and see what's available. The radio actually had a 6U7 in place of an AF7 - which I converted back to original (new socket and removed a 4V to 6.3V autotransformer), so I don't want to convert to an EL3 - but it did cross my mind!

At least if you have an auto transformer & it's not too physically big, its still an option, albeit a 1A proper transformer would be safer.

I know someone that has had that experience recently with a "P" EL3. I have a replacement for him.
