Hi. Just a quick one.
I'm after a service manual for an Akai video recorder model VS-G2100EA-D. A most remarkable machine.
I spent money on-line purchasing a worthless PDF manual. I guess it is just a risk one must sometimes take, when one does not have the needed information.
Any advertising information, Owner's manual, or even a list of its features would be appreciated.
Wayne.

Hey Wayne, is that the 1/4" portapack?
Almost back to Cumberland days!

Hello Ian.
No. Not a porta pack but a VHS machine for the home.
I like this machine as it seems to be the pinnacle of the evolution of the VHS machine.
I do not know all of the features of this machine, but here are the ones that I do know.
Front and rear AV sockets.
Front microphone and headphone sockets.
Audio Dub.
Insert Editing.
Intelligent HQ.
Independent level controls for audio recording level.
Vacuum fluorescent V.U. meters.
Flying erase head.
Hi-Fi Stereo recording and playback.
Stereo tuner. (A2 stereo)
Simple recording (quick timer)
On Screen Display.
Remote control.
Jog/Shuttle control for various speeds forward and backwards.
Frame by frame control forwards and backwards.
Real time counter.
LP and SP recording and playback.
G Code timer programming.
NTSC playback on a PAL TV.
Only Super VHS is missing.
I am fairly sure that the timer can be set up on the remote and then transmitted to the machine.
What I like is the cassette door flap is where the display is. A second eject mechanism is required as the front panel of the machine is quite deep and the cassette is not pushed out far enough by the normal eject mechanism and an extra push is required.
I can submit photos if requested.
Wayne.

Looking around, data and manuals appear to be quite scarce on that particular Akai model.
Out of interest: what was the source of the worthless PDF?

The site is "Digital Service Manuals .com"
They offer service manuals at $6.66 US.
My manual consisted of four pages of some kind of an extract from what I guess is a multi service manual.
It gave constant references to other Akai service manuals.that is, one must have other manuals to perform mechanical adjustments etc.
The limited schematics were not in colour for the signal paths and when expanded to a size large enough to be read, they were revealed to be very poor.
I think that they are Czech site. Their English is not too good once you get past their professional looking website.

Ah, I think I've come across that mob before. In any case the price was around US$6.00
I was seeking the service instructions and schematic for a Blaupunkt car radio and the site showed 8 pages, but as tiny icons. When the PDF was unlocked it was 4 pages copied twice. I asked the site owner where the other 4 original pages were and he replied "That's all I have".
PS: The IP address of digital-servicemanuals.com points to India.
