Got this radio about 18 months ago, but only finished working on it the other night (replaced useless string dial cord with fishing line). It works ok but I'd like a schematic to iron out a couple of minor intermittent problems.
This radio has 7 valves (6 octal plus a 6-pin tuning indicator). It has 6 shortwave bands and the usual MW and Phono positions.

Not sure what tuning indicator is used as there's no markings on it. The sheet of paper stapled inside has no mention of it.

I looked at the Kevin Chant site but no schematic there.

 Can anyone help?

There is a model 617T in volumes 8 & 9 of the AORSM, though I'm not sure if they have the cording diagram.
I think the differences between the 617T & 617TZ is electrical rather than mechanical.

Can you link to the 617T schematic (or email to me)? Hopefully it is similar enough.

I'll see what I can come up with when I get home tonight.

If you unhide your email address I can send you the 617T stuff.

Uh sorry about that. MonochromeTV just sent me various diagrams, none have the tuning indicator but they are otherwise pretty close, same valves, same chassis layout. The radio looks exactly the same as a model 609.

Thanks everyone for the diagrams, I have enough to work with.
One of the diagrams from MonochromeTV does show the magic eye, a 6G5 or 6U5. I missed that on my first look.

There's no problem with the dial cord, it works fine. I think there was a misunderstanding somewhere.

So, at some stage I need to replace a few black caps, and get a new 6U5.

The radio is not the easiest to work on, because the dial is not attached to the chassis, it is screwed into the case at 4 points. There is a cable from the band switch to the indicator. So, after withdrawing the chassis about halfway, you need to be very dexterous to get the 4 screws out, also unplug the dial lamps to give yourself enough room. Getting it all back together is just as much fun. Rather reminiscent of some of the truly horrible Philips designs.

Therefore I won't do any more work on it until a 6U5 arrives... whenever that might be.

Never been a big fan of Philips myself. Some of their dial stringing arrangements are mental torture.

Beware: With the tuning indicator. One common one has a grid voltage around half the other: Make sure its the right one.
There is normally a 1M resistor on the socket of the tuning indicators, it is rare to find one in spec.
