Thanks Brad,

Yes the cone is in remarkable condition for the age of the radio.

Peter.

The dial may be the clue.
At the bottom it has 849/876. This could be the model numbers for the dial glass. Lekmek models around 1938 and 1939 are in the 800 to 900 range according to the Radio Museum.

Thanks Garyoz, You may be right. It was probably made at the end of production.

Peter.

I don't think that a SW switch, it is more likely to be an antenna matching setup most likely for a loop type antenna.

Heard from GreatStuff that he's got this radio to work.

The power transformer was blown, but he had a spare that fitted in.
The 80 didn't work, so he replaced it with a 5Y3GT (and octal valve socket).
Replaced all caps and disconnected the ancient chassis-mounted ones.
After that it picked up several stations, but seems to be not as sensitive as expected.

The Lekmek is working now as Robbbert mentions. A couple of the resistors where replaced too. Sensitivity could be better but that may be an issue with my location as AM tends to be a bit weak. ABC news radio is very strong and crystal clear. There are a lot of cosmetic issues to address with the radio now. The dial illumination globe holders have long since perished and the cab needs several repairs. I will go back to an 80 valve as I have a couple of NOS ones now.

One of the greatest causes of a deaf radio is the alignment. After parts are replaced in the RF section, most manufacturers recommend that the set be realigned.

That means setting the IF's to their correct frequency, then re-setting the Oscillator (and padder if fitted) and then the Antenna coils

I guess I'll have to realign the Lekmek for best results. I've started patching up the cabinet and will eventually remake the curve sides but before that happens I will have to make the forming jig. Fortunately the moldings are in good condition as too the Bakelite bezel on the front.
