Anyone got one of these?

Thanks to MarcC, I obtained an NT3101A 110 degree line transformer and (after a delay caused by new flooring being installed, rendering my project area inaccessible) I have successfully grafted it into my 90 degree 79-2/3 Kriesler. Thanks again Marc, you're a gem!

It now works quite well but the width is excessive and the regulation is not great. Much like the HMV 110 degree TVs that ran this transformer in unregulated mode. It's made worse because the CRT is nice and bright and can pull some respectable beam current.

I'd like to modify it to use regulation which should also help the excessive width but I can't find the necessary VDR. I've been able to find the Mullard part number and I know it's a 950 volt 700mW VDR.

Anyone got one of these spare?

Hi Ian. I've got quite a few VDRs but not one of those unfortunately. I restored an HMV M1 chassis TV a few years ago and its width is a bit excessive. The BHT is also high, but otherwise the TV works fine. How's your BHT? I had to melt all the wax off the line OPT before it would work properly, the wax's dielectric properties had deteriorated badly.

Cheers, Stuart

Hi Stuart

Yes, the M1 used MSP/AWA line TX and yoke, the P1 released about the sale time used Philips parts in almost the same circuit. No wax on this Philips part, it's all epoxy. HMV didn't use stabilisation with MSP or Philips parts until the drop-down chassis (PU? V1?) appeared. The new transformer I have is an NT3101A which was a special version made by Philips with a higher tap for the 6CM5 anode, so that the EHT overwind wouldn't go shorted turns, as they used to do quite often in the P1 chassis.

I haven't measured the BHT but I suspect it will be high because EHT and brightness are both up - the vertical OP is having trouble deflecting the stiffer beam, it's starting to crush the raster in the top quarter of the screen as you wind up the height..

There are quite a few VDRs that should be usable. Do you have:

Uncoated body, green dot on end
Uncoated body, beige dot on end
Beige coated body, no stripe
Beige coated body, green stripe

Thanks

If you end up scrapping your AWA P1 it will have the VDR you need for the Kriesler.

Glad to hear the line transformer transplant was a success.
