It would seem that I need a 6AQ5 for my Astor, can anyone help or suggest where to purchase please.

A general warning with that tube for those who did not look at the original post:

That tube has two grid one pins & sometimes things get put on the spare that should not be there.

OP transformer: If it goes open the screen can be destroyed as it then becomes the Plate.

If the secondary / speaker VC goes open then the transformer can "ring" & that generates EHT and causes a flashover. The flashover can do damage like cause the plate bypass cap to fail & if it goes Plate to ground, that can lead to the primary failing.

The easiest quick check of the OP transformer & speaker is to "crack" a 9V battery across the primary: No sound equals problem. This should be considered a mandatory check on some Nippers with tar coated OP transformers and any Kriesler. There the ones I find with the highest attrition rate.
