Hi there!

I am a new member who recently came upon an Astor TV/Radiogram, and would like to know more about it.
I can find where the model number is supposed to be, but there doesn't look to be anything there. Could anybody help me in this?

All we've managed to deduce is that the radio works, but the record player does not. No idea why, I'm not good with fixing things.

Thanks for any help!

Check out TV Collectors thread here:

https://vintage-radio.com.au/default.asp?f=10&th=3&offset=1

You'll probably find a picture of your TV here with a model designation, year of manufacture, etc.

Edit: I didn't realise you have already been to TV Collectors thread.

Note: I should also mention that it is FOR SALE.
We've got the record player working, but the autoload function is almost completely jammed.

Updated. Smile

Turntables are most often the weak link in a radiogram. If the grease on the mechanical parts underneath is original (a likely chance) then it'll need to be washed off and replaced. This can be a big job.

Then the audio parts will need checking to make sure the pickup and stylus works correctly.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

It's an Astor model R31G. It's a fairly early model as it has the safety glass in front of the TV screen and uses the early style channel selector knob. It dates from around 1962-1964 and uses either the Series 3 or 4 chassis.
The model number and chassis type was also stamped in ink on the rear of the TV chassis. You'll need to remove the back cover of the TV section to see this.

Thanks so much for the info guys!
Like I said earlier, this is going up for sale, most likely in an "as-is" condition. I'm more interested in having it gone than having to repair it.
The pickup and stylus work okay (the 78 stylus is the one that is working, the 33-45 stylus merely scratches up anything it touches) so I don't think that's the problem, but the autoload feature does seem amazingly stiff, so it's very likely that all of the old oil/grease has gummed everything up.
