There are some US companies who repair./replace idler wheels, such as this one:

http://www.thevoiceofmusic.com/catalog/part_overview.asp.

and:

http://www.kenselectronics.com/lists/phonodrive.htm.

However, it's best to know the part number. If it's not stamped on it, then there is a data sheet on Radiomuseum site, here:

http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/garrard_rc_121mk_ii.html.

... but you need to be a member to access it. There are members here and maybe one of them may be willing to access it for you.

In case you are not aware of this, many old turntables also have problems with old grease gumming (cementing) up the works and this requires quite bit of effort to remove before a re-lube can be done. There have been a few discussions on this topic on this forum.

GTC hello and thank you for your reply and info and yes as you have said the speed is frozen steel shaft into white-metal I will have to play with that because if I brake it that will be the end of that and the idler wheel would you know what the diameter should be ? Kenselectronics has all sizes if I can get the diameter it should be I can mod the rest!! All the best and thanks again!!

Sorry, I don't have that data (I'm not a fan of old gramophones). As I mentioned, there are some specs on the Radiomuseum site, but only Radiomuseum members can access that stuff and I'm not a member. There are members on this forum who can access it but seems they have not visited this thread.

That said, I can see by Googling around that the Garrard RC-121 Mk 11 was a popular turntable, so maybe you could ask Kens Electronics if they already have the idler wheel specs for that model.

The size isn't there, just the part number - B53883 Intermediate Wheel With Bearing. That might help...

I have a few rc120h decks. Perhaps they use the same idler wheel? I can measure up for you.

Found one. Rubber still nice and pliable.
Diameter is 56.5mm
bearing/bush size 4.25mm
overall height is 15mm

If this sounds like what you need, shoot me an email. My address is unhidden.

I had the same problem with my RC 121. Wheel was so dry and couldnt grip on the motor bully. I used a rubber band which is almost the thickness of the wheel and maybe have the size of the wheel.

Now my player do all the functions, and run on all speeds
