Hi all,
I'm in need of a dual volume potentiometer/power switch for a television I am restoring. The volume pot is a standard 500KΩ pot. There is a housing for two switches mounted on it which are both activated by turning the knob - a switch for the ~230v active side of the mains and a switch for the brightness spot suppression circuit.
Does anyone have one of these for sale? The ideal shaft length is 20mm, though I can cut down longer shafts.
Thank you,
Chris

I fear that combination of features will be difficult to find these days.
There is a guitar-related pot (audio taper) but it's push/pull on-off not twist on-off and I'm not sure of its voltage rating:

Sometimes this sort of thing can be sourced as NOS from American surplus suppliers, but they usually have a $20 or $30 minimum order requirement.

Hi there, I bought two of these recently in NZ for a project & asked if the switch contacts were suitable for mains operation. The seller said a definite NO. These guitar-type controls switch signal voltages only. Sorry if this is a downer.

What might be a better idea is to use the switch-pot to drive a mains rated relay???

Yep, then you only need a single pole switch in the pot, and a double pole relay.

Indeed relay could be the way out. Rectify the filament supply to provide coil voltage.

The mains relay is definitely a good idea! I'll have to look further into that. I'm also going to have a look at an AWA P1, as I suspect that both models may use the same switch/pot set-up. If so, hopefully there may be one floating around in a "parts" AWA P1.

I recommend fitting a known working pot of the same type. Relays will work but they just complicate matters un-necessarily.
This is where wrecking radios that are rusted or have been smashed comes into the equation for collectors and restorers. Don't just grab the valves, grab everything that is serviceable including dial lamps, the dial glass and pots/switches.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...
