I've recently purchased a Healing Moderne from around 1950 and have found that one of the knobs is a slightly different colour, though not too much to be noticeable in low light.

Does anyone have a taupe/stone coloured knob for this radio they wouldn't mind parting with. I am happy to pay a reasonable fee for this or perhaps swap for the white one that is in place at the moment (see picture).

Love the killer plug on that. It looks like the deadly one?

Is that knob just tarnished as it is the worker? I would try giving it a spray with bathroom tile cleaner. I have seen reference on the US forum to some cleaning concoctions containing Hydrogen Peroxide, won't vouch for them.

Nup, definitely white as it is the same colour underneath.

Don't worry too much about the plug. It'll get replaced when the radio is restored.

I just scrubbed and polished both knobs.

The odd thing is, when shown in bright light, both knobs are the same colour on both sides.

When they are both placed back on the radio one is the same colour as the cabinet and the other looks whiter. So now I have clean knobs yet nothing much else has changed. I reckon I'll keep hunting for a closer colour match though.

Thought I would mention the plug for the benefit of others. Some, not all, of the Bakelite plugs are potentially nasty as you can have fingers wrap around just enough to tough metal. This is probably part of the reason for the sleeving on Neutral & Active on modern plug tops

Something looks physically odd about those knobs, agree that they do not look like a pair.

In a way I was hoping you were right about the knobs which is why I washed them. It would have been much easier for me if the knob on the left was the correct colour and the rest of the set had a coating of nicotine or similar that needed to be scrubbed off, though I do like the idea of having that colour instead of white as the value of the set would be a bit higher.

Is the colour of the case the same on the inside as it is on the outside?
I just picked this up today:

Not bad for $10 working Smile

It has discoloured outside the case, and is much newer looking inside.
This is plastic, and perhaps could do with retrobright treatment,
but I don't know at all if bakelite benefits from the same treatment.

I guess what I'm getting at is whether or not the knob came from another radio that was originally the same colour,
but the radio cabinet faded.

Oh no! Another 11-99. Check it for a diode or a 6V4 and add it's serial number to the collection here;

Ok, will do later... going out for tea, but I already know it's a rectifier valve 6V4.
