I'm looking for the service data for an AWA 500M Radiolette. I've found some information and a circuit for a 500MY on Keven Chant's website but there are differences between the two and the 500MY sheet refers to the 500M for more information. Hoping someone can help me.

If I am on the right track it appears in AORSM's. 6A8; 6G8; 6V6; 6X5 and set is back biased via a 40 ohm resistor.

Thanks for the quick replies. I've only just started restoring radios and I'm on a very steep learning curve at the moment. I've found myself completely fascinated with AWA radios from the 1940's. I'm working on a 516M at the moment and have the 500M lined up next unless something more interesting comes along! I think the 500MY had the back bias but not the 500M. From what I can gather that was one of the differences. I've unlocked my email address.

Let me rephrase that.... 500M & 500MY are both in AORSM's.

The back bias in 500M is 40R 500MY has two viz 40R & 200R.

Australian Official Radio Service Manuals.

There are dozens of volumes of these covering many years and hundreds of models.

The AORSM books came in a set of 14 volumes covering most, but not all, Australian radio models from 1937 to 1955. It was not published during the war years due to wartime austerity measures. Australian valve radios (and some foreign ones as well) made after 1955 are covered in the JR valve radio manual. This has most of the valve radio models right up until the end of the valve era.

The National Library in Canberra has a full set of AORSM available for any member of the public to walk in and take photocopies.

Not sure where else it is available to the public - some members here seem to have pretty good collections!

Thanks everyone for your help. Being a beginner I found the chassis layout photos in the AWA 516M service notes invaluable. Unfortunately the 500M service data didn't have this and I was contemplating making my own when I stumbled upon the service notes for the Hotpoint Bandmaster G46ME. Exactly the same chassis - and with photos!

I've had a quick look around the 500M chassis and apart from an obviously vaporised paper cap there's a few other strange things in there. Someone in the past has obviously been at it! I might start another post on that.

Below is a link to a photo of a couple of each type in various colours. Something I've always wanted is a complete set of the seven known colours but I've one to go.

These Radiolettes also came in a 4 volt battery model with a vibrator fitted where the transformer normally would be.

Just curious Brad, what is the missing colour?

I wish there were televisions around like this, that came in a range of different colours. The best I know of so far is the 12" PYE 12G13, which I've seen in red and white. The 12G13 is also my favourite! I've only ever seen one red one, listed on EBay last year. Wish I could've gotten it.

White with a freckled look, similar to the Quik sprinkled on a cappuccino. Very very rare that one. Although the jade and turquoise are also very rare. in the order in the picture from top to bottom we have turquoise, jade, cream, white, burgundy and walnut.

Here is a picture of an AWA Radiola 'fridge' with the same effect.

Most portable televisions had either white, beige or brown plastic or had a marviplate body with a silverfrost bezel and black rear panel.

Fantastic collection Brad. I've found myself drawn to the 500M and the 516M. Almost identical from the outside but so different under the chassis. I'm sure I'll add to my extensive collection of two radios in the future but I don't think I'll stray too far from the 500's and 516's.

One of each colour? Coming into radios at this late stage it's probably not possible but I think I've got a shot at one of each year model - 500M, MY etc.
