A question on behalf of a friend: "What brand/model of radio was typically found in Toyota Landcruisers, as delivered, in the 1980s?"

I would have to wait for the series 60 to come in for service & see what it has.

I have a contact in the Toyota dealership here.

The last contact I had with a car radio was in GTHO XW recently (60's) and they were AWA and also appeared in other makes.

Thanks.

He wants to try to get the same model for his current Landcruiser. He said the Landcruiser he owned in the 80s, but which was stolen, had the best radio in it that he's ever experienced for reception when camped out in the bush and he'd like to source another one (and repair it if necessary) for his current vehicle if he could only recall the radio's make and model.

The 60's AWA was not too bad after I sorted out the oscillator & several horrid little caps, one of which had exploded, plus some handiwork from the last person that failed to fix it.

Making sure that you have the antenna trimmer set right makes a huge difference.

Those AWA's had the most unusual permeability tuner I have seen.

The feedback from the Toyota contact suggests Fujitsu.

Thanks Marc. I'll pass that on, and the tip about antenna trimmer setting.

I've just been informed that the query relates to the 47 series Landcruiser "troopy".

Contact was not specific, I would still think it may well, also be fujitsu.

One of the car radio, or 4WD guys might know?
