Hello!

I have a vintage HMV Casino 70 Black & White TV that is fully functional and taking up space. I am going to part with it much to my chagrin. It has lived in a sheltered, dry place all of its life and has stood the test of time. A light dust covering is all that has tackled this set. There is no evidence of corrosion anywhere! This weekend, I will power it up again to take photographs for listing on Ebay. I would prefer someone with a serious passion for vintage electrics to take it off my hands before I list it. I can email you copies of the photographs if you would like to see it. The set does not have any legs as it has always sat on the sideboard in pride of place. If there were legs, they are long gone. It has a metal shell with the classic woodgrain finish embellished on its exterior. It is in very good condition. The picture is remarkable and the sound is nice and bright.

I do not really want to part with it, but I have to choose between my functioning computers and my television sets. My computer collection wins as it is significantly more extensive than the TVs. (I do have 2 machines running which are fully functional with software of the day on Windows 3.11 and Windows 95 - that is rare!) The 1978 Rank Arena Colour was picked up last week by an avid collector claiming it was a significant find. (He wasn't into B&W. Even after seeing the set running, he didn't take the HMV).

I will not trust a freight company to move the set. Either you pick up, or we can come up with some arrangement to get it to you. I want this set to get to its new owner working as it has for me for decades.

I won't list on Ebay in a hurry. Genuine people will be given the opportunity to get in touch. If the auction site is my only option, I will be genuine to Ebay bidders once it is offered online as that is my philosophy. I wish to be sincere on all angles.

Yours with kinds regards,

Colin.

Powered up the set today and it failed to run for the first time ever. Alas, the old girl has given up. Thanks to all for your correspondence and interest.

Colin.

The HMV Casinos bring back some memories. I was lucky enough to go to a private school and each classroom had one of these at the front of the room mounted from the ceiling. These were networked and connected to a bank of several U-matic video cassette recorders located in the library and there was also a camera and microphone for when the Headmaster wanted to hold an electronic assembly - probably a fairly unusual but innovative activity at the time.

Apart from that the classrooms were fairly typical of the time - four walls, big blackboard, a platform for the teacher to stand on to rule the class with a rod of iron.
