Hello,
I am trying to find one of these radios- preferably in the "cream" flecked colour ( instead of the brown that I have also seen).

My great grandmother had one of these ( a gift from my father) and many years ago it was accidentally crushed when some shelves collapsed on it.

It would be great if the radio was working- but that would be a bonus.

I recently "read" the Sheridan/Singer Book "Radio Days" at my local library. What a treat for those interested in Vintage Radios. I highly recommend it!
The radio I am looking to buy is on page 161 in the right hand corner.

If anyone has one of these radios for sale please contact me.

Thank you,

Judith

Hi Judith,

Flecked/marbleized bakelite sets usually fetch a premium price because of their rarity. I've read an estimate that says, in general, 90% of bakelite radios produced were brown, and of the other 10% most were either plain white or cream, with the small minority being other colours and flecks and swirls.

Coloured and flecked sets are keenly sought after by collectors and are usually sold through auctions, including eBay.

Here's one that sold at auction for $900 plus the 20% buyer's premium:

Hello and thank you so much for this information. However, it is somewhat depressing to know that what I am looking for is rare and therefore expensive. As someone on a limited income, I will never be able to afford to buy one- even if one became available.

Thank you again for taking the time to reply and for the link.

Regards,

Judith
