Hi,

As with anything, value depends on rarity and appeal, as well as physical condition. Some brands and models are quite popular, whereas others not so.

Some pictures would help identify the actual models.

You can email pics to Brad and he will put links to them here. (Go to his member profile for his email address).

Meanwhile if, as I suspect, they have not been used for some time don't attempt to power them up or you may do irreparable damage to them.

Picture has been sent To BRAD but he may be busy!!!...if you guys out there in internet world could help me out with a ball park figure of what they may be worth that'll be awesome. The astor looks like it is the same on both sides but the other is just a green box with 2 dials.....

G'day Big Mike,

There's a few ways but none are as easy as sending them to me at this point in time though I am working on some alternatives for the future.

The photo would have been added last night however I have been busy with work but all is good now.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

I've seen a very similar Astor to that one, but I cannot find it in any of my references. There will be somebody familiar with Astor here.

I'm not at all familiar with the Scharnberg Strauss brand. They were manufactured in Adelaide.

Speaking personally, neither set strikes me as immediately collectable.

As for value, in the end a radio is worth what a buyer will pay for it on the day it is offered. However, I don't think you can bank on getting rich from those particular sets.

Put them on eBay with a low starting price and see how they go. You should be willing to post Australia-wide as "local pick-up only" will lessen your chances of a sale.

But still keen to know what they are roughly worth Smile

Upon more research, I'd say that your Astor portable is either a model PS of 1952 (if it has AC/DC and battery power options) or model GP of 1951 (if it is battery only).

I am not willing to guess its value. I've not seen that model sold so I have no basis for even a ballpark guess.

As I've said elsewhere, ultimately a radio is worth what a buyer will pay for it on the day you want to sell it.
