I never dress up new components to look like the old. There's no historical advantage to doing it unless the radio is a true classic and is intended to be on display at meetings or in a museum where many will admire the original workmanship.

In cases where large condensers are mounted on top of a chassis, I'll leave them in place but simply disconnect them at all terminals and have their tiny replacements underneath.
