Reminds me of the phone on the wall at Burrinjuck Dam when I was a kid in the mid fifties. Except it had an angled shelf attached at the front for note taking.

I received the phones wirtout the shelfs. You can see the holes where the originals were fitted.
I did not get around to haveing new ones made.
