Hi,

I am looking for a radio for a friend ...... Sapphire I .... to go into his 1964 Karmann Ghia.

There are several variations of these radios eg. made by Bendix or Motorola, AM or FM versions etc ..... but any Sapphire radio would be fantastic.

Does anyone know if there were any 'clones' made?? One web site suggested that Astor, Ferris, Kriesler, AWA etc made and fitted radios for VW's of this era ... maybe the same for Karmann Ghia??

If he is unable to find a Sapphire radio which can be 'restored' ..... he may, as a compromise, purchase and restore a suitable radio made by these above companies .... let me know if you have one for sale .... with some idea of its condition. My email address is visible to Members.

Hi Garyoz,

Thank you for the response ....

Yes, you are correct .... there are quite a few in the States. Postage becomes a significant part of the cost and transportation issues. This will be an option if we cannot find one locally.

The 1964 etc radios for Karmann Ghia are on the same site different page ...... http://vwradios.com/Sapphire_Radios_1960_to_1967.html

Cheers,
Ian

With a US radio you'll probably be able to get a period one with FM. No chance of FM in a period local radio.

Shipping stuff from the US is no big deal, postage is cheap, trackable and arrives in a few weeks.

postage is cheap

Only if you stay well away from eBay Global Shipping. Massive ripoff!
